Does that mean you cant show us any pics of your adventure until the show has aired?
What happens if you do, does the TV company send a hitsquad after you or just bloody lawyers?

Then the parent company makes a note in your file that you've violated the confidentiality clause, and you never work in the industry again.

Re: Countdown to Release | SPOILER THREAD
Does that mean you and/or your ships have appeared in TV shows before, Dave?
Re: Countdown to Release | SPOILER THREAD
More movies than TV, and I usually don't appear on camera.
Pirates of the Caribbean I, Star Trek: Generations, motion capture for Treasure Planet, a little-known IMAX called "The Great American West" (it has a close-up of me where you can count nose-hairs ), a Hallmark miniseries of Blackbeard, a hand full of indy films that never went anywhere, Fear Factor, A bunch of stuff for The History Channel, stuff like that.
It's not our main mission, but it helps pay the bills!
[edit: also the tent poles in Water for Elephants were made on our 100 year old spar lathe. How's that for name dropping? ]

I find it incredibly cool that you get to be a part of that, even if it's not the main mission. It sounds pretty exciting!

Very cool indeed.
Do you get to 'meet' the stars, ir at least stalk them in the background then?
I would love to have met Patrick Stewart and talked Shakespeare with him.

Re: Countdown to Release | SPOILER THREAD
On a set, there's a clear social barrier between the "talent" and everybody else. Probably similar to a tradesman at a royal palace. They usually don't see or hear you. That's fair enough. They have a job to do and they're focused on it.
There are notable exceptions though. I wasn't in St. Vincent when they were shooting PotC, but by all accounts Johnny Depp was quite friendly with the crew (for an actor ).

Re: Countdown to Release | SPOILER THREAD
Benedict Cumberbatch has apparently dropped a hint about the splitting point of the films. However, he said this before it was announced that there would be three films, so take it with a grain of salt.
http://www.theonering.net/torwp/2012/08/20/61028-benedict-cumberbatch-drops-more-hobbit-hints/
My thoughts:
- Spoiler:
- "I think my eye might open at the end of the first film and then you’ll get the rest of me in the second."
http://www.theonering.net/torwp/2012/08/20/61028-benedict-cumberbatch-drops-more-hobbit-hints/
My thoughts:
- Spoiler:
- This would have made a lot of sense for the two film split, but there might still be something to it. It was always unlikely that Smaug would appear in the first film beyond a small glimpse at the end and/or a flashback, and with the new split it's likely that he won't appear until substantially into the second film. However, he's still the most iconic character from The Hobbit so I would not be surprised if he has a very small cameo appearance like his eye opening at the end of part one, wherever that ends up being.
Re: Countdown to Release | SPOILER THREAD
- Spoiler:
- You could still do flashbacks to Dale (judging from the set I would be suprised if we dont also get a good bit of Bards made up backstory set there too) and Smaug destroying it in film one without necessarily showing more than flame and a shadow on the ground.
Not knowing when in the films or even for certain if we see Dale destroyed by Smaug (although I think we will) its hard to say.
I would actually prefer to not see anything of Smaug until the same point in the book, not even an eyeball.
I think any prior knowledge of his appearence will take away from that moment of reveal when Bilbo sees him for the first time.
ps why are we using spoilers? Isnt there a spoiler free thread?

Fair point.
I assume that Smaug will appear in some sort of flashback early on but I don't think that he will be clearly visible. I agree with you on that point I think. Even knowing PJ, I would be surprised if he shows more than eyeball (who am I kidding? ).

Interesting.

Anne Richardson - one of the journalists who interviewed Benedict along with several others was kind enough to send me a transcript of what Benedict said and there was a small snippet re Smaug in The Hobbit which I hadn’t seen reported.
I think my eye might open at the end of the first film and then you’ll get the rest of me in the second.
Given that the second film may be called The Hobbit:The Desolation of Smaug that sounds about right.
Of course the interview took place before the film was split into 3 so his appearances may be more evenly spaced.

Thats a lot of the book gone if you see Smaug at the end of the first film.
That could change now there's a 3rd film, but still ?

Re: Countdown to Release | SPOILER THREAD
I'm sure they'll use the eye shot (a visual reference to Sauron), but whether it's as a tease at the end of the first movie or whether they save it for trailers for the second movie I couldn't guess.
They'll be editing and re-editing right up to December so who knows what will make the final cut.

Re: Countdown to Release | SPOILER THREAD
thats a bit weird I prophesized Smaugs eye back in Bree months and months ago. I said we would see a quick glimpse of his reptilian eye in the first film. But nobody ever listens to me.

Re: Countdown to Release | SPOILER THREAD
You're a mod over there, nobody wants to brown nose. But I am perfectly willing to admit my awe and worship at this amazing prediction.
I actually like the idea of the movie ending with a look into the gloom at the bottom of the tunnel, then suddenly a malevolent eye pops open causing muffled shrieks in the audience.....fade to credits.
