Was this during or after the series? If during that must have really been something.

{{{RIP Victor Pemberton. He was one of the few who appeared in Doctor Who (he was converted into a cyberman!) and to be a writer.
He is responsible for two particualry iconic scenes- the first was the 2nd Doctor comforting Victoria-
and the other was the invention of the sonic screwdriver- still with us a major iconic part of the Whoverse to this day, even if its uses have been extended rather considerably from just screwing and unscrewing things.- see War Doctors response to 10, 11's use of the sonic "Oh, the pointing again. They're screwdrivers! What are you going to do, assemble a cabinet at them? "
He came back to the show as a free lance writer and penned Fury from the Deep as well as later writing for the 4th Doctor.
Thanks for the great writing Victor- and for giving us the sonic! }}}

Re: RIP
I saw that he's passed away. I thought something might happen, as for a while, they've said he's been frail. He filled his life with lots of things & met lots of interesting people tho.
I'm getting to accept that I wont be seeing a neighbour of mine. She lived in the block next to me, In my old flat actually. Only in her early 30's, single mum. Just passed exams to be a pharmacist so, to celebrate, she & her daughter took a holiday back to Russia to see her family. Got a taxi from the Airport, taxi driver fell asleep at the wheel, now she's gone Her daughter has just come out from a coma & will find out she doesn't have her mother any more. All of the neighbours here are stunned & we've all cried. She was such a nice woman. Too young to 'go' as well. I used to chat with her as we took our dogs for a walk & her daughter would chat with me as I did my garden. She would call Simi funny names

Yeah, one of those great supporting character actors who would take almost any role, big or small. I think I need to watch Cool Hand Luke and Repo Man again.

RIP Tom Petty. His death will probably be overshadowed by the terrible events that happened in Las Vegas. I was just listening to the Traveling Wilburys yesterday. This only leaves Jeff Lynne and Bob Dylan as the only surviving members of the supergroup.

Funny how the Travelling Wilburies managed to so perfectly disguise the individual musical voices of the group members. Can't pick them out at all. It demonstrates a sense of teammanship you wouldn't expect from such icons.

Being able to successfully blend vocals really puts these guys heads above the average lead singer who can't.
This is a great short doc on the Wilburys. It's great to see them working together and having fun. You can really see the respect and admiration they had for each other.

RIP John Hillerman.

I completely missed this one the other day, but my dad mentioned it to me tonight. Very sad news. Love Magnum PI, and Higgins was always a great foil to Magnum's character.

Re: RIP
I only recently learned that The Rockford Files and Columbo were created as a matching set, shown on alternate weeks. When I was younger I gravitated towards the breezier style of Rockford and felt Columbo was plodding. As I've grown older I get far more swept up in the artful slow reveal of Columbo.

I don't think so Halfy. Columbo rotated on Wednesday nights as the with McMillan and Wife (Rock Hudson and Susan St James as husband and wife detectives) and with McCloud (Dennis Weaver as a hick New Mexico sheriff who gets stuck working New York City). Columbo and the others were usually 2 hours. All very good. Rockford was a few years later and was a regular weekly hour long series, a lot more like Maverick had been.

We had those shows over here also & I enjoyed them no end I think 'Mc Cloud' was my favourite by a pinch. For teatime treat I loved 'Bewitched'. I tried wriggling my nose like Samantha but I never got it

Re: RIP
McCloud was probably my favorite too. Aside from the stories, I think I saw them as training videos on how a country kid could succeed in the big city on his own terms. It came in handy many times.
Later of course there was Crocodile Dundee to copy, but it never fit me quite as well as the McCloud style...
Keep practicing the nose-twitch spell-casting Az. I'm sure you'll get it eventually, and then you'll never need to carry your wand again!
