Well dammit. Another icon gone. He dominated film ever since I was a lad.

Re: RIP
Yep, another icon gone. Apart from the odd, random death, for the most part people that hit the headlines were ones that were before my time. More recently, it is really getting in to some of those that were in their prime either when I became aware of TV and film or just before and therefore were still all over the screen.
James Bond, Robin Hood, The Rock, Indiana Jones are probably where I remember him from most.

Re: RIP
Probably a controversial opinion but I was never a huge fan of Connery's Bond (more of a Timothy Dalton/Daniel Craig fan), that's not to say he wasn't a great actor and charismatic leading man, I just generally prefered his other output, and over such a long and varied screen career he certainly put out many gems-The Man Who would Be King, A Bridge Too Far, The Untouchables, Indiana Jones, The Hunt For Red October, The First Great Train Robbery etc.
He was also very active in charity work (something I believe he continued doing even in retirement) for many years.
Definitely a screen legend, and one of Britain/Scotland's best actors.
He'll be missed.
...I'll always wonder how things would have turned out had he accepted Jackson's offer to portray Gandalf in LOTR (had he done so he would reportedly have been in line to earn $450 million), he was certainly a great actor but I'm not so sure he'd have been right for the part (his fame would have possibly been distracting i.m.o), and perhaps a tad old for the role.

Robin Hood? I also don't remember him in The Rock.
Edit: Ah, had to look him up in The Rock. Been years. A classically restrained performance that shows Connery at his best - but it's Nick Cage's and Ed Harris' more unhinged performances that stick out in the memory years later.
To me he's the definitive Bond, though Daniel Craig has certainly given him a run for the money.

{{ Its one of the things I like about Connery, he wasnt afraid to do a lot of mad independent and even art house stuff, he wanted to push his art and try different forms of it, wasnt all about the money for him, Highlander was cheap as chips and with a first time movie director who had previousy only done music videos and commercials. But he did it anyway. And for every Zardoz there was a The Hill. }}

Re: RIP
I always liked the fan theory that Connery was essentially playing James Bond in The Rock as well, under a different name and being locked up after a mission went wrong, it's been years since I watched the film so note sure if the theory really works but fun to think about.
Connery was apparently also considered for a roll in Skyfall as well:

Again, whilst that would have been fun to see happen, probably for the best it didn't.

Wouldn't say I love it, but certainly a whole lot of fun, daft and campy but very stylish 80's fantasy
Never watched nay of the sequels etc though.
Also rather fond of Time Bandits though Connery's role in that was quite small.

Highlander sticks with you, despite some goofy moments and special effects. Can't help but enjoy those movies.

I have only seen the first Highlander, but yeah I thought it was great fun. The villain is very good!
My grandma died today as well. I forget her birth year but she was about 90 as well. She had no big career like Connery. The little people just disappear and are forgotten, which is fine.

My grandparents all died while I was very young or off in college. If you've never lived with them it feels distant and disconnected. But they love grandchildren so much, it would have been good for them to have that closer connection.

Its been a sad last half of the year for so many people. Nearly every day you hear of some 'star' passing away. Everyone is a 'star' in someone's eyes but my gawd, have we really noticed it this year

RIP Gérard Houllier. As a Liverpool fan he masterminded some great memories and created a team that went on to bigger things after he left.
Tributes suggest he was a very warm and caring person as well as a great manager. Sure he will be missed by a lot of people.

Not sure if anyone here watched Babylon 5, she played Ambassador Delenn. I believe she was also a recurring character in Lost.
Sad news, B5 was a big part of my childhood TV schedule and I think one of the best sci-fi series ever made! She was a big part of that.
