Re: RIP
My son told me, poor Carrie. George Michael as well, This is the reason I mainly don't listen to the news, watch TV news, & just shut myself away from most forms of media. Its all too sad. I hardly hear any good, uplifting news. Ive been called a fool &, a coward. Ok, so I'm both those things & selfish too but, in my naivety, I feel better in myself & can give each day a fair go. There's too much sadness. Too many families distraught. And we only know of the ones in the limelight, what about ordinary people ? In the small area where I live, Ive seen several neighbours, who I laugh & chat with, suddenly "disappear".

Re: RIP
Way of the world Az.
I think a lot of people think I am quite heartless when it comes to death but it is the natural way of things for everyone. The sooner people just accept that and get on with things the easier it is to accept both loved ones dying and your own mortality.
That is just how I function anyway. I don't want people to die, but that isn't going to stop it from happening and most of the these people (and probably the disappearing people round your way) will have been relatively comfortable at the time.

Died at 96, didn't even know he was still alive! Watership Down is timeless.

Re: RIP
The first season of the 70's Battlestar Galactica was basically just a mashup of Star Wars and Watership Down. Although less obviously flashy than SW, I wonder if WD hasn't had a similar impact. {{that's just me musing. I couldn't defend it but it feels right. }}

Yep.
I think I've mentioned before that I spent much of 03-04 in chemo wards and critical care units with long odds against me. I met a lot of really cool people who were on the way out, and I learned a lot.
As I see it we've all got to do this sooner or later, but we've got some choice as to how much class we show. I think both David Bowie and Leonard Cohen get major points for taking the opportunity to put out farewell albums, for example.
Personally I wouldn't mind diving off a bridge and saving a drowning child or something heroic like that, but for now I've got other projects...

Re: RIP
Cripes David I didn't know.
I believe in getting on with life, put on a smile & try to find at least one thing a day to laugh at or with. Even if its at the toughest point your in. Even if its your darkest moment. If theres any hope of a chink of light, go for it. There are so many wonderful things out there & often its right under your nose.

{{I plan on dying drunk- I think the odds are favourable!!
But if you want my thoughts on the subject of death then probably reading the chapter of Home entitled 'The Last Hours of John Stibbons' covers my thoughts on the subject pretty well.

I plan on fighting like a soldier right to the end, and I wouldn't mind having enough clarity at the end to take a final bow as the curtain comes down. At the same time I think I'll know when the battle is over. I've got no interest in taking up a valuable hospital bed just to squeeze a few more hours or days out of the old heart. Better to be home on the farm if I can. {{{What a cheery conversation this has become! }}}

To say "I want to be with Carrie" and then just let go... Sad, but not a bad way to go, poised to the end.
