Re: RIP
that video of Suzanne was a mess. Pitches and rhythm all over the map.
Hallelujah came through by the personal magnetism he put into it. But he was emoting the song, not truly singing it. Emoting can be more powerful at times, so I'm not saying he can't perform. Put next to KD Lang it's clear who the singer is. Again, not knocking his performance which I labeled as mesmerizing. (But Suzanne was a mess).
Dylan's something else. I think what he did on stage was so perplexing that people couldn't resist trying to figure out if he was really a musician or not. If he hadn't written the songs he wouldn't have been taken seriously.

Re: RIP
Sorry, that was probably my fault Halfy. That version of Suzanne is from the middle of the near-riot at Isle of Wight 1970. To me it's a great performance, but I suppose it's like watching Dylan at the Newport Jazz Festival. You need the context to really appreciate it.

Yeah if he's also holding rioters in check I can see him missing notes - his mind wasn't completely on it.

Re: RIP
I should pack everything and travel far
To an island in the most tranquil sea
To cook or build something
Will be the only requirement
When the day is over, I shall be so tired
From what I did yesterday
Then I'll lie down and sleep sweet
And not think
On the year
What a fucking year
I have lost my best friend
She will never come back
My little brother I'll never see again
I will always miss him
When the day is over, I shall be so tired
From what I did yesterday
Then I'll lie down and sleep sweet
And not think
On the year
What a fucking year

Re: RIP
I will never understand why anyone with looks, talent, great wealth and admiration should take heroin, they all seem to do it and destroy themselves. if I had all life has to offer I wouldn't abuse my good fortune by drugging myself out of existence. why are they so miserable? They can afford councelling and all the help they need. The only downside I can see is never really knowing if you are genuinely loved by those around you, apart from the people you knew before you got famous, and I suppose that's why rich people date other rich people.

Re: RIP
Knowing people in the industry (no big stars before you ask) there is a lot of boredom coupled with people literally putting it on a plate for you. Many start small to help pass the hours and it goes from there.
Also, lots of people go from nothing to superstar in a very short space of time and never get a chance to adjust. That is why a lot end up with mental issues.

Re: RIP
Carrie Fisher has passed away, aged 60.
Not unexpected given the circumstances, but a very young age to go.

Oh no! I didn't expect her to be the same as before (or even close), but it's still a hard blow.

The passing of many creative and talented people, who made us think, who made us feel, and a horrendous rise of the Populist Right and their (apparent) enemy the Extremist Superstitionist. Hopefully, 2017 will be a lurch back toward creative and caring Humanism and a new Age of Reason...

Holy cripes!
I found out, as usual, through a bloody youtube comment. I thought, as always, that can't be right! But then, of course, it turns out that she is dead.
