Re: Harry Potter
Neat.
I thought Yates did a pretty good job with the HP films he directed. Not sure what this movie will be about and I'm uncertain if reading the book would be worth it.

Re: Harry Potter
The book is literally just an in-universe encyclopedia. The story of the film is about the dude who wrote the book going on adventures that ultimately form the basis of his research for the book. The book is cute and has some funny little easter eggs for dedicated HP fans but I can't imagine that reading it will really enhance one's enjoyment of the new film's story.
I have mixed feelings about Yates' track record so far but he wasn't so off-putting to me that I'll steer clear of this. Not getting too excited yet but I know I'll be there when it's released next year.
Having a Hufflepuff protagonist will be cool.

I came across something strange while pointlessly perusing the IMDB Future Releases page.
http://www.imdb.com/calendar/?ref_=nv_mv_cal_5
Ctrl-F and type in "Harry" once you're on the page.

Re: Harry Potter
Well basically it showed a re-release in theaters of the first 6 HP films set for July, 2017.
However, because IMDB is editable by the public, or whatever, we really shouldn't put too much stock in this.

Re: Harry Potter
Yeah, I won't let myself get excited until/unless it's confirmed by a non-IMDb source, but a theatrical revival of the series to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the publication of the last book would be awesome.
Re: Harry Potter
when I looked I saw past dates. May have been changed already.

Re: Harry Potter
It's still there (8-13 July 2017), but it only lists Chamber of Secrets through Deathly Hallows Part 1, excluding the first and last films, which throws its validity into further question.

Re: Harry Potter
They've cast the leads for the Cursed child stage play if anyone is interested
https://www.pottermore.com/news/cursed-child-play-casts-harry-hermione-and-ron?linkId=19765978
Although I'm intrigued by the notion of Potter on stage, I was always a little hesitant about a sequel in any form...the stories's finished i.m.o, this just comes across like a cash grab, and considering the potter fandom is mainly child/family orientated it seems a little unfair to limit it to a relatively obscure stage show...

I wish she would stop fannying around and just do a proper sequel prequel whatevequal book about Potter, seeing as she is still interested in that world. and that's what people want anyway.

Re: Harry Potter
I read about this in a newspaper at work- it being a British newspaper their angle was not that it was being announced, but that 'some' fans were questioning (and some had been outright racist) about the fact the Emma Watson character was now black.
Rowling responded by saying all that was canon was frizzy hair and smart. No mention of skin colour.

Sorry to burst the internets bubble, but that picture clearly states that she's white. Albeit that's the weirdest way I've ever seen someone's race was identified in a story.
I'm not racist, I just hate retcons in franchises. Acting like something is one thing, yet covering it up it up later acting like that's what they planned all along. It's not just that incident though. The books are a fun read, for sure, and when the book-on-tape is being played, it's something I can't help but listen too; but continuity has never, even been Rowling's strong point. To point where I just sigh and blank out whenever wand lore is being mentioned, because I know that later on in the story another rule or loophole will be made about it.

Re: Harry Potter
I'm all on board wit the it doesn't really matter point of view, because.. it doesn't. But that doesn't mean the book isn't pretty clear on the matter. (Just that Rowling isn't adversely positioned to it at all.)
In the end you decide what you want to put in to whatever story you read. If you want Hermoine that way, you just imagine her that way. (Like I always switched up the haircolour of two characters in the Wheel of time series, because, whatever the text said, I had always imagined them that way.)
To be honest I don't see much merit in people insisting it has to be one way or the other. Let people make their own minds up.
