Amarië wrote:Watching Romantic Comedies is very poofy too, Orwell. That is only ok if the missus made you see them. And even then you must pretend later that it was dull, but that the lady had nice boobs (either your date or the lead lady in the movie, depending who asks).

Am I fond of romantic comedies? No, not really. Can easily live without them. Smile

She has quite a lot to answer for, come to think on it... And I think I need to broaden your view, Amarie.

(1) Some poofs watch Romantic Comedies, not ALL - you'll need to confirm that was Ringo Herring and Eldo though, they have some expertise in the area I hear.

(2) I'm no poof, I'm a red hot hunky hetersosexual - ask anybody. (Hey! I only shed tears in the scene where the Tinman sings to Dorothy - but no Man is immune to something as lovely as that! Mad And a poof would transpose Alan Carr for Dorothy in their mind's eye, so as to be moved as well.

(3) Women are the Nigger of the World. Just ask John Lennon. (My point? I'm trying to give Women their sexual Freedom. Which suggests - quite strongly I feel - that I'm not a poof).

Oh, Petty, I'll watch your Who Episode - sooner or later. Very Happy

(Eldo, um, this is still a Politically Incorrect Forum, isn't it?)

Mrs Figg wrote:It was not one dimensional at all, she was the typical bored shop girl with a dead end job and no prospects, but she knew there was more to life than the drudgery of her life, silly mum and daft boyfriend and missing dad. She jumped at the Doctors offer and transformed into a brave and lively companion, she had a strange relationship with the doctor, she treated him as a big brother and at the same time was a bit jealous of Mary jane? cant remember her name. Anyway she was far far from one dimensional in my opinion. She was at least fun to watch. and certainly never boring or cold.

I think you've convinced me not to watch Dr Who, Mrs Figg. I always rely on your excellent judgment, you know. Very Happy

We've finished The Beast Below too. But sadly though I must agree with mrs Figgs about the acting and actors. It feels... like something is missing. I look at their faces and I don't believe them. I might believe Matt, yes I think I might. He's got a spark in his eyes that is promising. Amy acts a lot with her big eyes.. wide, wider, widest. But it is like she is holding back. I read Amy's speech about the beast somewhere a while ago and thought: Wow, can't wait to see it!! And it was dull. I should have been bawling, but... And the hug was weird.

You hit the nail on the head Amarie, there is defo something missing, a vital spark, a vibrancy and joie de whatsit, that I got when I watch Eccleston and co, even Tennant has that je ne se thingy, that this current lot lack in spades. Call it charisma but I dont know what it is. Even when the plots were a bit dodgy, I liked them all so much, that I watched with pleasure. I am bored this this lot and that makes any amount of superb writing redundant. No and the finest love story was between Rose and Eccleston by a mile. What defines the doctors assistants for me is not their static prettyness but a certain love of life, a complete and utter diving into the unknown with a great wwwwooooooooo!!! like you do on a big dipper, its that I miss its the wwwwooooooooooo!

All I can say is that the Ponds and this particular Doctor have moved me more emotionally and made me feel like I am 12 again more than any other Nuwho, by a mile- for me this is Who of old in a shiny new box. Smith simply is the Doctor- he inhabits the role. And the Ponds story is beautiful, complex and poignant.

I'd still strongly, strongly recommend giving it a go Orwell and make your own mind up. Series 5 and 6 of Nuwho is afterall the most popular and critically acclaimed its ever been and the only time in the shows enite lengthy run its lead actors have had bafta nominations. So pretty sure its not just me sees the brilliance of it.

I present my defence of Karen Gillan as an actress. I am with the critic who said she was a brilliant character actress in the body of a super model (I'm not sure some feminine feathers of a green plumage hasn't been colouring some views Suspect ). The little differences in performance here between bitter older Amy and young Amy are so well observed. Of course it loses some of its emotion out of context and when you haven't been with the chracters for the better part of 2 years but it amply demostrates she is far more than just a pretty face.
(I had to chop this together myself and upload it as the BBc keep pulling clips of these parts- so I don't expect this to last long either).

oooohhh feminine feathers of a green hue, why do blokes always assume wimmin are jealous, and thats why they critisize other wimmin, its a bit reductive innit? I think she is very pretty and have said so without any carping or snipery. I appreciate female beauty very much, as works of art, and I dont feel threatened by attractive women on the telly. My particualr beef is that she could be pretty and lively like Rose, whos character is a big part of why I like her. My personal opinion is that I get nothing behind the eyes, she is obviously "acting", whereas Rose was "being", if you get my drift?

It was blocked by BBC Worldwide specifically. They're awfully prickly about not letting anything from BBC shows escape Britain because they have a lot of licensing deals with companies in other countries. Within Britain itself that's not as much of an issue.

Bloody BBC! I'm trying to persuade people to watch the damn thing- whats their problem? Whole episodes I can understand but clips? Whats the point? Evil or Very Mad
Bugger- well you will either have to watch The Girl Who Waited to see Karens excellent performance or move to the UK to watch the vid! Or might be able to find a clip of it from one of the various awards shows she got nominaed in as a result if it.

I was wondering if it was a factor because both yourself and Amaria have both made comments on her appearence in your critism of her- which struck me as unfair at the time.
