Oh Mrs Figg, I know you have the best intentions, but you really should leave the 'argy bargy" with the more intelligent Forumshirer's (the boys, I mean). It's best that way. What you need to do is come live at my house, and cook and clean and look after your brawny hobbit's baser needs, and, in this way, be happy. This is what all ladies need, not partaking in intelligent and forceful discussions, leave that up to the menfolk, that's just "sense", what! Very Happy

An excellent 11 th Doctor vid for comparison with the three doctors above. Contains MAJOR spoilers.

Spoiler:

Life's too short to dust? Dear, dear Mrs FIgg how do you hope to get a nice man round if you have a dusty hole? You need to give it an airing. I'm sure Orwell will be happy to help I've heard he is very handy with a duster around about his own hole. So his missus was saying anyway.

Dear me Petty you are not a very domesticated Scotshobbit are you? Everyone knows if you want a clean and dust free hole you just need to get some air to it, let the air circulate and all the cobwebs will be swept away in the resultant wind. To adjust the wind speed and strength you need to position opening flaps to oncoming breeze. sheesh where were you for these crucial life lessons? probably slumbering under a gorse bush eh?

Aww shame, if you've a box of matches handy I can produce some lovely shades.

Some Who related news from Gallifrey Base.

'John Simm has indicated on Twitter that he would consider reprising his Doctor Who persona; when asked, he said: The Master - of course! Mr Moffat is a brilliant writer.'

I loved his portrayal of the Master but hated all the stories he was in (they had stand out moments but in poor episodes) I'd dearly love to see him in a Moffat written episode.

'Karen Gillan is about to start work on her first film, Not Another Happy Ending, "Every now and again, we produce somebody who really holds your attention on the screen and she’s got it. She is not just a small screen star, she is a big screen star. She really is one of Scotland’s greatest talents and can go all the way." '

Orwell is that not a reply to something in the WHolesome Tales thread?!

Funny Petty , (well.. sort of funny), I've been thinking that Smith is the most human Doctor of the three I've seen. Then again he did seemed eager to shove the kids into danger, so perhaps not. I have seen that he knows who the Doctor is and the history he continues, but though perhaps it was due to the prior doctors being more human.

Learned that swimming in Venice is a bad idea. Amy's acting is getting better I suppose, but Amy is not all that likeable, personality vise. Oh well, many episodes left. Liked Rory though.

I think part of the problem if your knowledge or experience of Who is Nuwho is that unlike all the companions before Amy is not the person you're meant to identify with- thats Rory's job- he's the likeable bloke next door. The everyman. Amy is like the Doctor, she is not ordinary by any means and therefore is always that little bit distant, that little bit colder and more guarded.
Whereas Rose no doubt appealed to those who wanted the Doctor to come along and sweep them off their feet Amy won't. It's not her job and in my view having Rory in the ordinary person role is no bad thing- its about time boys had someone on the TARDIS again to look to and identify with. Since Nuwho launched there has been a tendency to cast females only and for any males, like Mickey, to get a weak side role.
On the being human thing Smiths Doctor does things, misses things, little human things all the time. He often gets swept up in his own stuff at the expense of the safety of those around them. And he has an odd time with emotions- he seems to suffer outbursts of it more intensely than previous Doctors but they catch him off guard when it happens and he doesn't really know how to deal with them "Look, I'm angry.... I really don't know what is going to happen now", under all the bluster and fun there is something alienly dangerous about him thats been missing since Nuwho launched.

Yeah, it didn't take long to see that Rory would be the voice of reason.

What was it Donna said... *checks quotes.*
Donna: Promise me one thing though, Doctor.
The Doctor: What's that?
Donna: That you'll find somebody.
The Doctor: I don't need anybody.
Donna: Yes you do. Because I think sometimes you need somebody to stop you.

Edit:
Mickey yes, oh the poor lad. I was really annoyed that he would be treated the way he was. He had to go to another dimension to get a bit of credit.

Good quote Amarie- and it perfectly sums up Smiths Doctor too. Rory grows and develops far more than any other companion in Who history I would say- he is one of my all time favourite companions. And the Doctor needs him to be the brake on him, to be the reminder of where the lines are.
even on his very first trip on the TARDIS in Vampires of Venice he can see the Doctor more honestly than Amy does,

*nods* And you can see that the Doc knows Rory is right.

Reading what you said about the outbursts... I think what you see as 'human seeming more alien' is what I see as 'alien seeming more human', just a difference in perspective. I think perhaps the only thing we are not quite agreeing on is KG's level of greatness. Wink

I am confident Amarie that the further into the latest series you get the more you will appreciate KG's performance, and when you then go back and watch an earlier episode again be suprised and impressed by the subtlness she brings to it which only really make full sense once you appreciate Amy's full story. Its timey-wimey.
Its also worth remembering this was KG's first proper acting job, before this she had briefly been a model and appeared in some sketches in a comedy show. And then she was cast in one of, if not the, biggest UK TV franchise with all the pressure that brings. She certainly grows in confidence but even her early episodes are more subtle than a first watch might hint at.

Some Who trivia- the actress who plays little Amelia is KG's niece.

Been trying to think why yourself and Mrs Figg have had such a negative reaction to KG and wonder if its something to do with the sort of companion she is. Amy is unique in companion history in that all the others become companions and get involved in the plots. From the very begining Amy is the plot. Her role in the Doctor's life is intrinscially different from all previous companion roles.

its very simple really I just dont like her, and its important to actually like the characters to be able to identify with them, root for them and care what happens to them. I dont give a toss what happens to Amy, she leaves me cold and gives me creeping boredoms, its a gut reaction. You cant really analyse and explain it away for me.
