Re: Doctor Who
I do have time for the occasional film/series episode, but as I can only watch Doctor Who illegally (right?) it's sort of out of the question since certain sites are no-goes around here

There are episodes posted on dailymotion. Is it allowed? (Techniclly the poster is the one doing the illegal thing). Other than that you'd have to order the dvd's.

Re: Doctor Who
Dailymotion is blocked for some odd reason. I'd have to order the DVDs from Britain since Doctor Who is a show unheard of in Norway, and even if the DVDs are fairly priced the customs and shipment make t rather expensive. Perhaps I'll download a couple of seasons the next time I'm home, that could work

Re: Doctor Who
I've been watching all of them online! Here's a link to a good website w/ links for all the episodes!
http://watchseries.eu/serie/doctor_who or http://www.iwatchdoctorwho.com/
As to series 6, I have quite a few questions! When was Amy replaced by the flesh/ how did the doctor figure out that was what she was? Also, are the Silence the aliens that you can't remember or are they something else? And how does the doctors death count? only a robot version of him died, not the actual him, can he trick time like that????? I LOVE series 6 though!!!!! Alot better than series 5 in my opinion, and I even like Smith a bit more than Tennant! I love Amy and Rory as companions ----- oh! wait! I remember another question now! So Mel shows up in "let's kill Hitler" and she's a life long friend of Amy and Rory's. If she's a timelord, how is it that she grows up with them? don't they age a lot slower? ---- and I like the writing alot more than Russle T. Davies.
And I keep thinking that my head would explode if ever there were to be an episode where the Doctor goes back in time to visit Tolkien and Lewis. It's possible! They did that in the Unicorn and the Wasp (Bad episode, but clever idea!)

Re: Doctor Who
Yay Tin! But have you finished series 6 or do you just know the ending cause you watched the last episode first! (I'm trying to avoid spoilers but seems like youve seen it all so if there are spoilers here-sorry)
Yes Moffat writes much better than Davies doesn't he? And Smith is just amazing as the Doctor. Whilst I had my niggles with Tennant I didn't think he did a bad job, he is a very good actor. But I have to admit to finding it quite hard to watch most of his Doctor Who now, he seems so....ordinary.
I am now holding out for an episode with Tolkien and Lewis- great idea Tin!
I much prefer the family in the Tardis vibe to the lone female pining over the Doctor thing that Davies had going on. It reminds me of classic Who when there were often several companions at any given time.
And besides it gives us episodes like The Girl Who Waited which was just superb and moving.
Favourite episodes Tin? I'd love to know.
- Spoiler:
- 1. When was Amy replaced- Somewhere between last years xmas special and the opening of series 6. Just before they go to America. Or so the Doctor seems to think- another possibility is when she is captured by the Silence and they tell her she has been there for days and she is nearly ready.
2. How did the Doctor figure it out- the first clue was the Tardis being unable to determine if she was pregnant or not. The Flesh two parter- Rebel Flesh- the Doctor already knows about the Flesh and he is just going to investigate its origins- so he knew by then. Although he doesn't seem to know for sure until the end of that two parter. He couldn't say anything because of the Silence, there could be one standing right next to him and he wouldn't remember it was there.
3. The Silence are a religous order- what they call the Silence, the 'forget them if you look away aliens' may be Silence or just servants of the Silence- that is yet unresolved (I favour the latter as I still think Omega is behind the whole thing).
4. The Doctors Death- it was never the Doctors Death which was a fixed point in time- everyone just thought it was because thats how it looks. He was always in the tesselector, in the first ep of series 6 when he is shot- thats the tesselector. It always was. The Tesselector being shot with the Doctor inside it is the fixed point. So Time is not tricked, everyone witnessing the event is. And the Doctor being the cold, ruthless bugger at need that he is, that tricking extends even to Amy and Rory. That is why before the second shot he turns to look at Amy and says "I'm sorry", not for dying but for having to trick her into believing he is dead and for the pain that's going to cause her. (And it has to be convincing as the Silence are there watching as witnesses- Amy sees one of them on the beach in the opening episode of series 6)
5. Mels- regeneration is different for every Time Lord, its not precise and some have more control over it than others. The Timelord Romana chose her own look and tried out several different ones before the pattern 'set'. When Mels turns into River she says she might take her age down slowly just to freak people out, so she seems to have more control over her change than the Doctor does, he can't even make himself ginger like he wants! Mels was a, roughly, 6-8 year old girl in the orphanage and that was New York in 1968. So she is actually at least 40 in human terms by the time she is growing up with Amy and Rory. Also when she regenrates into River she says the last time it happens she became a toddler- so she regenerated into a younger version -which must have been mighty confusing for her!-so its hard to tell how old she should look or to know how much control she has over her aging-some at least from her comment about taking a few years off to freak people out. In general Gallifreans and humans age in appearance about the same speed until puberty is passed then Gallifreyeans age a lot slower. There is also the Silence's time machines to take into account. It is even possible Mels used one of them to get to Amy and Rory's time- possibly even the one from the Lodger episode in series 5. And a final option is that, given her role was to kill the Doctor and the Silence knew eventually he would turn up for Amy that she was deliberetly planted there by the Silence to await the Doctors arrival. After she regenreated in New York she was recaptured and moved to Amy's time- this is my own favoured option. Moffat however leaves it open enough and with enough clues that the viewer can puzzle out how they think it was done for themselves- its one of the things about his writing of Who I like.

Re: Doctor Who
Or very bad. I have a very bad feeling about this. What do they mean "It needs quite a radical transformation to take it into the bigger arena" and "Russell T. Davies and then Steven Moffat have done their own transformations, which were fantastic, but we have to put that aside and start from scratch."
" Don't like the sound of any of that. How can you put aside the show the film would be an offshoot of? Last time they did this we ended up with the Peter Cushing films. Please, not again. Nor am I sure what the point would be. We have an excellent tv show and it does film length specials regularly. If its just for shiny effects its not worth doing.

I reckon Craig will come back and make it a trilogy of episodes with him and the Doc. I hope so anyway.
Girl Who Waited and the Doctors Wife are definetly two of my favourites from 6, Amy's Choice and the final two parter are favs from series 5. Bu in truth so many favourites from this era of Who, I'm spoilt for choice.

Re: Doctor Who
David Yates? Seriously? If his work on Harry Potter is any indication he fluctuates between decent and mediocre. Granted, he showed improvement with the final two films, but I can't say I've been terribly impressed by him.
Re: Doctor Who
That final film is my favourite all-time movie!
Hopefully they won't ruin Doctor Who though. IMO stuff like this never ends well. Dearly hope I'm wrong though.
