Didn't notice this post earlier -- welcome back, Halfwise! I'm glad you're able to find time for Forumshire again. I hope your Summer went as well as it could.

Re: Holidays and absences
You seem to have very interesting maritime adventures. I hope all goes well!
Re: Holidays and absences
Bumping this thread since I'll be out of town this weekend. I'm going camping with my dad (and other family on that side) so I'll be leaving tomorrow afternoon. I'll be back on Sunday, though I don't know when exactly yet.
Re: Holidays and absences
what? camping? an american!
haha. no just kidding, have fun! Hope you do proper camping though, walk a mile up a hill, no road, no vehicles, no caravan

Re: Holidays and absences
I've done that before but I don't like it that much. So nah. We're pitching our tent in a designated camp site in a state park not too far from here. I have a six year old step-cousin (is that even a phrase?) who's going too, so she can be my excuse for not trekking through mountains.
Re: Holidays and absences
well, being six years old never stopped me ;D well, have fun though, and take some pictures ^^ and look at for spider webs that makes you go all ninja.
Re: Holidays and absences
I guess we don't have to start our kids young when we don't all live on mountain-sides.
I'll have my phone so hopefully I can get some good pictures. And yeah, the bugs can be bad, though it's getting colder so hopefully there won't be too many. It's been a while since I've been camping (in any form) so I'm looking forward to it.

Re: Holidays and absences
cool! I like to go camping with no tent. Just a waterproof bag over the sleeping bag or a little sheet-thing spent over to avoid any rain, but if no rain, no "roof". than I can look at stars and so a bit cold on the nose but
Re: Holidays and absences
I did a bit of tent-less camping one of the years I was forced to go to summer camp and we went off hiking. It was kinda fun but I wouldn't want to do it during any season other than summer.
Re: Holidays and absences
summer is too bright, man, autumn is better, although freezing, and you are allowed to make fire. and have your dog run free.
i'de like to try and sleep in a snow cave once.

Re: Holidays and absences
I've seen that picture before but I don't really see the appeal. What if you have to go to the bathroom? Besides, I like being warm when I sleep.
Re: Holidays and absences
well, you are warm. Wollen underwear and sleeping bag and cloaks and you lie on madrases and fur. it's not cold. and it's just a couple of degrees below zero, so it isn't that cold. a friendly reminder that the best temperature in a room for a human to sleep in is 15 degrees, that's chill
Re: Holidays and absences

Re: Holidays and absences
there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing (it rhymes really, in norwayans) if it's too hot, you can do little els but to jump in a pool (if you have one) or just lay around all day, waiting for a chiller evening. If it' rolled, put on more wool and fleece and jackets and , yeah ^^

Norc wrote:maybe in this hotel Ice hotel in Kiruna, Sweden
I stayed there one night when I was hitchhiking through in February. It sounded weird, but it was fantastic! Beautiful whimsical ice carvings everywhere, and the light was magical. The game in the bar (where they served whiskey in shot glasses made of ice) was to press your hand onto the bar, which was made of a slab of quarried lake ice, and see who could let it melt into the surface the deepest. (I think it's a fair test of who is the drunkest....) If you get cold, there's the sauna next door.

Re: Holidays and absences
I camped out on Kilimanjaro when it was significantly below freezing. A decent sleeping bag and some thermals is all you need.
Also visited an ice hotel in Lapland last xmas. Loved the ice bar, chairs and table and everything all ice carved.

ODE TO ALLY BIRTHSTYLE
day
oh the day
night
oh the night
upstairs downstairs
threesomes of particularities
jellies of delusions
bathed bathed bathed
the circumference
of one's fascination
bridled like a horse
without stirrups
biting on the bit-less
up up and up
down by the frothing waters
ebbing sand
tidal like a click-clock
hoppity pop
birthday
or daybirth
certain f words
not suitable
for esoterica -
or was that
poetry?
19
such an uneven number
such an uneven
young woman
which way does
her banana bending
mentality
curve to?
who would know?
not I
not I
happy,
yes at the end it must be
birthday, birthday did you say?
how can the refuters refute it?
how many question marks suddenly?
happy happy happy day
or is it dawn
eve
or night?
alas!
happily I alas it!
ooooooooooooohhh!

Fancy posting Ally's Happy Birthday on a completely wrong thread! Esoteric - or what!
