Re: A Song of Ice and Fire
Right, so done with book 2! No book 3 and 4 which are just book 3 but in 2 books, like books 6 and 7 which are book 5 and unlike book 4 which is actually book 5... but not books 6 and 7 like I said a second ago...
Re: A Song of Ice and Fire
Oh just plop your ass down and keep reading.

- Spoiler:
- sounds like Ser Jorah is in for a rough time this season. I am hoping one day he gets his girl, I will be rooting for him. I will be rooting for Jaime and Brienne too, another friendzone methinks. He fought a massive angry Bear for her, thats love that is.

Re: A Song of Ice and Fire
It's just a server error. A site like YouTube requires such a massive amount of hardware to handle its traffic that problems just crop up from time to time. The site's already working for me again, though that's not necessarily the case for everyone since there are so many different servers.
Actual hacking makes up only a tiny percentage of all Internet errors and downtime.

I have at least 2 hours of train time every week day and I just couldn't carry on playing Flappy Bird.
Re: A Song of Ice and Fire
give Flappy Bird the Bird. anyway just get on with it, I want you to start watching the series, I want to know what your thoughts are on the tv adaptation. At least start season 1, it wont ruin book 3. Actualy season 1 was a bit of a slow burn, the first two episodes didnt really do it for me, but I kept watching and by the end of season 1 I was hooked. Every season just gets better and better.

Oi you! We aren't married and I don't rely in you for.... things... so you can't tell me what to do! Gonna start book 3 and read all of that now before I start watching!!!
Re: A Song of Ice and Fire
How are you finding the books, Lance? Judging by your tempo they must have struck some sort of chord.
I'm about halfway throught he second book now, but I have, as I said before, already seen the series.

Re: A Song of Ice and Fire
I do sometimes find some of the violence and sexual references serve no purpose other than, possibly, to shock people a bit. Having said that, I have never studied the histories of many sackings, rapes & pillages or detailed downfalls of civilisations to understand if this is close to the reality of our past.
Makes me think... quite an intricate set of overlapping plots. I often find I have no idea who some people are or where others have gone to.
Tyrion I like and intrigued more about what is going on up north than the rest of the world.
I want to read more.

Figgy! You ruined it for everyone now. I knew something was going on with him but didn't expect he was trying to sabotage a race!

Unfortunately, I think it does mirror our own history.Lancebloke wrote:I do sometimes find some of the violence and sexual references serve no purpose other than, possibly, to shock people a bit. I wouldn't say he's trying to shock so much as not editing out what normally gets edited out.

Re: A Song of Ice and Fire
Sex and violence is a part of reality, so one could say giving it room in a story, particularily one set in a medieval fantasy world, actually adds realism. Though it standing out probably has something to do with the norms of the genre as well, as Halfwise says.
It can of course be overdone and become gratuitous, though I feel they are skirting closer to that line in the series than in the books.
