Was this certain someone actually banning regularly contributing members of Bree, or was it just spammers? I could never tell who he was referring to when he'd complain about "idiots" or whatever his phrase is.

and for no good reason other than personal dislike. It soured the whole atmosphere and things were never the same. It kind of broke the spell of how Bree worked, ie we had bad arguments and fallings out before but nobody got banned and we eventually sorted things out by ourselves. Once someone had power over others it changed the dynamic, all the more if one of the banners was acting in a childish petulant manner.

I mean, I could be childish and petulant but I never banned anyone when I was mod.

That's messed up.  I think I followed the guy's last thread.  I hope you guys let him know that he's welcome over here if he still wants a place to discuss The Hobbit (assuming anyone ever got his contact info).

This kind of thing seems to be a 'duration' problem. When we take ourselves too seriously and get all snitchity with each other, sooner or later we need to step back and find some tolerance and maybe a bit of a sense of humour to boot. If the snitching goes on too long, these disasters happen. Sad. I hope your Bree friends get over it, Bree-landers.

I see this as kind of a Refugee Camp. And you're welcome to stay (awhile), Bree-landers - so long as you don't wander about the respectable neighbourhoods at night, or bring your strange religions, exotic cultural practices and weird foodstuffs here.

I am steadily constructing the realization that simply allowing a Scottshobbit to walk in a door without challenge would be taken as a slap in the face.  Tantamount to declaring them nothing to be worried about.

btw, Malick - in a similar vein we take it as a rebuke if you treat any conversation too gingerly.  Not knowing what the hell's going on is standard practice here when entering a conversation.  (Cross-reference Norc.)

Thanks for clearing that up, still getting used to this place (not really missing TORn much...), rest assured I have lots of crude comebacks and insults about Petty's Scots heritage (as I'm sure he has a fair few about the English) prepared if the occasion arises  

Then again not knowing what is going on seems to be standard practice for all message boards forums *IMDB*.

There is nothing about being Scottish to insult.   Most insults; miserable, crabbit, skin flint, drunkards, insanely violent people who only eat food if is A deep fried and battered and B not a vegetable are matters of national pride

Now I'm an open minded and generous hobbit by nature, but that doesn't mean I have much truck with just letting anybody in, do you hear! I may not come to Foumshire anymore - not since the Pure Realm (Little Forumshire) was begun - but I sure as hell still keep an eye on things here. And all I can say is: 'Mind your manners, and line up at the desk to get a passport next time, Foreign Hobbits.'
