Re: Future releases
That looks quite good; I'll have to see if I can catch that when it hits US theatres.
Also, I watched the Swedish version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo recently and enjoyed it, but wasn't blown away or anything. In the meantime, however, a new four-minute trailer for David Fincher's adaptation has come out and I'm much more interested in this. Maybe I'm just a sucker for Fincher's stylized kind of filmmaking (as in The Social Network), but this looks like it has the potential to be better than the original movie. We'll see, I guess.

Re: Future releases
Has anyone seen Immortals? I thought the trailers looked immensely stupid (and actually mistook it for the second Clash of the Titans movie at first). However, the reviews I've read thus far seem to suggest that, while bad, the film might not be as bad as I first thought. Any advice you guys can offer me?
Re: Future releases
The trailor looks good Eldo, but i'm biased i like them kind of films.

Re: Future releases
Can't imagine this working. Its a mix of the manner in which the original was shot (reminiscent of the original The Haunted) and Bruce Campbells performance.

You've gotta be kidding me. Although they do seem to be imitating the designs of Tatooine and Geonosis.

There's no way this will compare to Avatar (despite that film's flaws). Think more along the lines of a sci-fi version of Clash of the Titans.
Re: Future releases
Oddly enough the Titans thought crossed my mind when I saw it - but I thought that was just me being crabbitly cynical so I tried to put a more optimistic spin on it- what was I thinking.

Re: Future releases
Now that looks fascinating! The premise is a bit iffy so I hope they have some sort of explanation for an exact replica of Earth. Regardless of that, damn, I'd love to see this film.
Re: Future releases
I read about that movie in the Suntimes (I think Roger Ebert wrote something about it,) And I was really eager to see it! Sadly, it didn't play in my local theater that plays independent films like that. AND I never saw Tree of Life! Still angry about that too...

Re: Future releases
I didn't see The Tree of Life either, but you can do like I did and just read the abridged script online. Much shorter, funnier, and (probably) more insightful.

Re: Future releases
Not sure what the giant head is (or what the film's ever-changing relationship with Alien is) but there's a ton of actors I like attached to the project so I just might check it out.
Re: Future releases
Maybe it belongs to the giant they found in Alien in the cockpit seat (who interestingly also had a corropsondingly giant face hugger on him). I'm really hoping we find out who they were and why they had a cargo hold full of alien eggs.

Re: Future releases
That was what I'd heard at one point was the connection, but the plans seem to keep changing so I'm not sure anymore.

Re: Future releases
Could be good that Jack one, certainly looks entertaining, as does this, Pixars latest with a Scottish flavour (and nice to see for once an american made film set in Scotland with an actual Scottish cast- no dodgy accents!)

Re: Future releases
Its got to be an alien prequal. Its shot similar to alien and they are even using the scary alien music on that.
Talking of prequals I saw the Thing prequal, mysteriously also called The Thing, which is a bit confusing. It is a prequal, but it doesn't quite fit. Or rather the ending doesn't, and the bit of the ending which does fit, whilst suitable feels like an afterthought- not least because its intercut with the end credits. The stroy it is telling suffers from the completely pointless and needless interjecting of an American woman, who as far as I could tell's only purpose was so it wasn't all Norweigans and they'd have to speak english- becasue her charcater and what passes for her stroy is not enough to put on a stamp.
The cgi varies from very good to a bit ropey. The best incarnation of the Thing in ti owes its design to the charred remains retreaved in Carpenters film. I definetly prefer the physical prop effects of Carpenters over the cgi. But mainly this one lacks most of the tension and paranoia of Carpenters version and without those its pretty weak. And having watched it, the actual events are so similar, but not as good, as to what happens in Carpenters the overall impression I was left with was why bother?
