I really don't think Bloom is that bad when he's given a decent script to work with. I liked him in Pirates of the Caribbean. Still need to see Kingdom of Heaven, though. Smile

Really, you don't. Bloom is fine as a secondary character actor but Kingdom of Heaven shows he can't carry a film on his own. Take Depp out of Pirates and would you watch it for Bloom's performance?

No, but on the other hand, take Bloom out of Pirates and would you watch it just for Depp? I'm sure plenty of people would say yes, but look at what we got post-Bloom: On Stranger Tides. Rolling Eyes Laughing I think that says more about the role of Jack Sparrow's character and how he worked (i.e., as a supporting character) than about the two actors, though, as Depp is clearly superior.

What is it with Viggo and David Cronenberg? Question

Any word on what this film is about? I should just check IMDb or Wikipedia but I'm too lazy. Razz

I'll give any Cronenberg film a go. Not always to my tastes but you can never accuse his films of not being interesting.

I wanted to get A History of Violence and/or Eastern Promises a few months ago but couldn't convince my mom to let me buy it. Although I'm over 17 now so I can buy R-rated movies on my own. I'll have to give Cronenberg a try sometime. Twisted Evil

Doesn't sound too good. I have to say I have had mixed feeling sabout this since I first heard about it. A sort os sequal with a rather silly sounding story line. I will wait till I have seen it to make a judgement but I fear somethings are best left alone and the original classic Wicker Man is one of those things.

Kick-ass action movie and film festival darling? Count me in! Very Happy

Deep in the heart of Jakarta's slums lies an impenetrable safe house for the world's most dangerous killers and gangsters. Until now, the rundown apartment block has been considered untouchable to even the bravest of police. Cloaked under the cover of pre-dawn darkness and silence, an elite swat team is tasked with raiding the safe house in order to take down the notorious drug lord that runs it. But when a chance encounter with a spotter blows their cover and news of their assault reaches the drug lord, the building's lights are cut and all the exits blocked. Stranded on the 6th floor with no way out, the unit must fight their way through the city's worst to survive their mission. Director Gareth Evans (Merantau) and rising martial arts star Iko Uwais reunite in this adrenaline-fueled action film.

Warning: loads of violence

I've only seen a few minutes of True Blood, which I caught by accident when I tuned into HBO early before an episode of Game of Thrones, and yes, the level of sexual violence in that show was certainly gratuitous to me. affraid I'm afraid it sort of destroyed any interest I may have had in the show based on recommendations from friends. It wasn't really bloody though, and didn't involve guys shooting guns at each other, so I guess it just wasn't my thing. Razz

2000AD's Rogue Trooper is coming to a cinema near you soon-ish. Better than that the blue hero is being scripted by none other than Grant Morrison. Although that is a little odd as out of all the strips he contributed to in 200AD Rogue Trooper was never one of them. (And if you don't know who or what any of this means well its not my fault nobody showed an interest in the Comics Thread now is it?- get yourself over there and get educated people!)
So with this and Dredd I wonder if Holywood is running out of good ole USA comics to mine for film material?

Been reading reviews of Tintin- seems like it looks amazing, is full of action but completely devoid of any of the political comment which marks out the comics.
Why is it Speilberg can do politics and social messages when its nazi's and jews but dumps it from everyhting else? He did the same with War of the Worlds removing the religous aspect from it by getting rid of one of the main characters, the Reverend. Why? Is it cowardice? Fear of a backlash at the US box office? I don't get it.

Ah well way I see it from reviews Speilberg has previous at wimping out on such issues so he's to blame for that- and the film being a spectacular series of improbable chase sequneces is PJ's fault.
I'm assuming any good bits are down to Moffats hand in the script (because he's Doctor Who's showrunner and can therefore do no wrong).

Fair point. I think it's worth noting that PJ was also a producer on District 9 which IMO handled its political messages very well, so you're probably right that it depends more on the director. I guess I just hope for more from Spielberg, but I'll wait till if (and when) I see the film to pass judgement.

This is getting early good buzz from the critics. Meryl Streep playing Maggie Thatcher in the Iron Lady. Awards beckon I suspect.

The comments are worth a read too for a view of how a large percentage of Britain remembers her!
