But isn't it like edited and so on in the US? I mean I saw it on that interview thingi recently, they had to re-cut it for american audience, i think they had to shorten it down

Re: Sherlock - BBC
My mom generally disdains watching live TV, but she really wanted to catch Sherlock, so we saw it together. It was great, brilliant like Halfwise said, but the cuts annoyed me. I wasn't actually aware of them going in, but they were fairly obvious, though thankfully minimal. There weren't multiple commercial breaks (thank god) but there were a few in between the prologue and the main episode, along with a list of PBS sponsors and a superfluous introduction by some random host. My mom said she didn't notice them, but one of the ones that jumped out at me was that the scene at the palace was noticeably shortened, especially towards the end. It was mostly little stuff like that which I thought were fun parts of the original episode and that I personally missed, having seen the uncut version, but that didn't really affect the narrative. However, the one cut that really bothered me was:
Quibbles with the PBS version aside, it was wonderful to revisit Sherlock after about four months and I still love the show greatly. I'm just going to see about buying the UK Blu-ray if possible. I think it's region-free, so there shouldn't be a problem, just extra shipping from Amazon.co.uk.
- Spoiler:
- After Irene Adler's apparent death, once Sherlock and Mycroft have looked at the body in the morgue, they retain the scene where Mycroft gives Sherlock a cigarette. However, they removed the part where Mycroft and John discuss Sherlock's drug problem and the fact that he is having a "danger night" and Sherlock's quip that he hopes they didn't go through his sock drawer. I thought that removed some of the poignancy from the second act and also stripped away one of the more interesting aspects of Sherlock's background that is referenced only a few times throughout the entire show.

Out of curiosity, have you managed to remain spoiler-free for series two? If so, I salute you. It must have been fairly difficult since there was a lot of Sherlock talk online this past January.
Re: Sherlock - BBC
Shame US companies do this- its the same with other BBC stuff- I even heard they sometimes speed the footage up during certain sequences to save time for ads!

It's easy: most references are to little snippets of scenes, so not having seen them, you can't follow what people are talking about anyway. No effort involved really.

That is both amazingly weird and absolutely understandable.

Brains if the new beautiful! (And about bloody time too! )
And poor old Matt Smith is only 55 on the list!
Can't find their female top 100 list but I know Karen has moved up 9 places on last year!
And by the power of Who Jenna-Louise Coleman, the next companion, makes her debut on the list this year! (Expect to see her move up the list once she has actually started on the show at xmas)

because Martin Freeman has a computer and knows how to use it. Now both him and Benedict know everything there is to know about all of the fanfic and fanart there is out there. From the sweet and innocent to the very disturbing ones.

As long as they are smart enough to avoid the Real People Fics... messing about with fictional characters is one thing, but that is just far too weird.

okay.... eww... that's just wrong.. I mean, .. D: poor non-fictional people .. :S

Unfortunately, Real People Fics are particularly prevalent in LOTR (movie) fanfiction,
Re: Sherlock - BBC
That is daydreaming gone bad. You don't know a person from seeing some interviews and paparazzi pictures. And considering the stuff people write about the fictional people... No, no no no.

Re: Sherlock - BBC
Some of them are actually really funny, though not intentionally. {{{But I agree it's creepy.}}}
Re: Sherlock - BBC
it super creepy and disturbing, especially when the one who writes think they know the persons (sad thing is Legolas comes out as being such a sissy!) if you're lucky some of them are good and well written. But only if you are really really lucky. most of it is shit sadly x)

Henceforth, whenever discussing the man who portrays Sherlock Holmes and Smaug, I too will call him Bandersnatch Cummerbund.
