Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
TORn put up an interesting analysis of 'The Scroll' that's worth a few minutes of your time.
I had no idea what it was supposed to be but TORn's commentator suggested that it was the bridge leading to the gate of the Elven-king's caverns and I have to admit that's probably correct.

Scene 10. Barrels out of Bond.
There are two parts to this scene.
The first: the company crossing the bridge across the Forest River into the Halls of Thranduil. All 13 dwarves. Thorin is bringing up the rear, I think. And, seemingly, they’re alone.
The second: the company floating down the forest river to freedom. On the extreme right, Bilbo is the barrel-rider!
Detail: Notice how weathered the bridge is. It’s stood there for long, long ages. Notice also, the complete absence of Sindarin and Silvan elves. Have they been removed from the bridge to strengthen the photo’s impact? Finally, in the far distance, could that just be the Lonely Mountain beckoning?
I’m just as thrilled about the flow of this storybook as I am puzzled and intrigued about the little details, changes and omissions.
The absence of the elves here is a particular puzzler. But here’s a thought: the Cinema-con mess was a bit of a setback for the marketing campaign. Maybe, to avoid spooking any more horses, the role of the elves at the pointy end of An Unexpected Journey is being minimised for the nonce.
Or maybe they’re still keen to focus on the key characters.
Either way, it’s food for thought.

I'd made this assumption when I first saw it based primarily on the fact the the barrels are escaping under the bridge. For the barrels to make any sense at all to a casual viewer it has to be visually clear that there is a river coming out of the caverns and that there is no other practical escape route, so the river, the bridge and the gate have to be featured prominently in the movie. In this context the image makes perfect sense.
What doesn't make sense is why they all seem to be marching across the bridge of their own free will. My guess is that the scenes in the book where the dwarves run into the elven glades asking for assistance will be eliminated. Instead the dwarves would go directly to Thranduil's palace to ask for assistance, and be thrown in the dungeon because of some other grievance, perhaps trespassing or an old feud. It would streamline the narrative and keep the focus more on Bilbo.
Admittedly it's hard to imagine PJ passing up the sight gag of dwarves in fat suits chasing elves and falling all over each other in the dark when that's actually what's in the book, but that's still my guess.

I always thought Thranduils palace was in the forest?, there are no Elves present, and it doesnt look remotely Elven. I think its the Lonely Mountain as it seems to be on a mountainside. Maybe its after Dale? it seems a grim and lonely place, not the home of feasting forest Elvses.

Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
What even worse than the time I accidently (on purpose) drunkenly flashed Her Majesty Queen Tin whilst up that tree?
Or the night I sung the 'Wizards Staff has a Knob on the End' song in the Duck and Muck, with gestures?
Or that time when I took a piss in Eldo's chocolate fountain in the Tower of Lore? (you can take that any way you like its bad all ways)
Surely this can't be the worst thing I've done Ally? If so I'm not trying hard enough!

I think these troll are a lot scarier looking than the cave trolls and what not from LOTR. They look more menacing. Then again, they do speak instead of roar, so maybe that will balance it out

Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
Interesting take on the trolls. It's nice to see a fresh take that's not quite like anything in LOTR. Has there been any word on whether or not they speak though? I thought that was still up in the air.

I agree, they do look more menacing. The LotR trolls were just big dumb brutes, but these are more clever looking, with 3 distinctly different personalities, and they are definitely NOT nice. I'm more and more convinced they'll talk, and if they do, I expect it will make them seem even more menacing rather than less.
