yess, but neither does the very short "Wings" or the alarming green colour and Smaug will probably have a longer neck.
Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
Thank you all for posting pictures. I won't get a chance to watch the video for a day or two (I just tried and failed).
I do like Gollum's boat (of Goblin skin??).
I'm sure that's a physical shape-holder for a CGI eagle he's riding.
I'll admit that a 3D rescue form burning fir trees by eagles could be a lot of fun, in the spirit of the book and right down PJ's alley.
I'm reassured by the look of Beorn's house as well.
I'm trying not to be too negative about Radagast, though I'm still skeptical.

Sylvester McCoy is just hilarious and I think he will make a very enjoyable Radagast the Brown.
Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
I agree i think watching this latest blog has relieved my fears somewhat, the stone giants is a nice touch, Tauriel looks like a realistic elf and is subtle, if that was her, and the sets all look wonderful, i am particularly intrigued by the pre-destruction of Dale, it looks very pretty and if we see it getting fried by Smaug will make it all the more terrible to see. Radagasts house and Beorns is also nice, I love the wooden animal carvings. All round good show I say.

I'm wondering if its not Nain, with a large red hammer... Dain had a red Axe did he not? (or he was supposed to)... Also look at how young Thorin looks, not a bit of grey in his hair. I'm assuming this is from a flashback scene of some sort. As far as some of the other stuff went, I loved the Stone giants almost gives them an ent like quality, maybe they returned to just being stone as time went on like the ents became trees. Beorn's hall looked great love seeing all the honey combs around it. Love the italian villa look to Dale. I just hope that is supposed to be before Smaug came. Goblin town looks cool too only thing I wish they would have shown was Radagast in some way in character, or Thranduil in costume, and made Radagast's home a little less Harry Potterish... but I think overall there are some good things happening. Now if they can just stay closer to the hobbit story and not give away too much information within the White Council subplot as far as the ring and Sauron goes.

Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
You could be right there Sinister about thta being a flashback scene. Thorin does look a bit younger there.
I am less keen on Dale- its a magnificant set without doubt but a mediterrean look for the cold, windy, wet north? It wouldnt last a winter. Snow would break those roofs into bits.

Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
Dale looks like the totally wrong architectural style given its geography and the real world cultures that inspired Tolkien.
Thorin does look younger in that pic; great spot by Sinister. Also, is it just me, or does Thorin's outfit look awfully similar to Boromir's from FOTR? Similar mail, sleeves, and surcoat it looks like.

Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD

Thats what I was thinking Mrs Figg, he looks dressed like the son of a king instead of a beggar like they were basically reduced to after Smaugs desolation or Erobor

Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
With the fashion observations in mind, I wonder when exactly the flashback is supposed to take place. It looks like a battle scene so I had assumed the War of the Dwarves and Orcs, but that took place well after the capture of Erebor by Smaug. Perhaps Smaug's arrival will also be a flashback battle...?
Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
just looking at the background to be extra nitpicky (who me?) there seems to be a pillar behind them so maybe its indoors rather than a battle as such, it looks like they are trying to be stealthy rather than full on attack mode, but thats just my interpretation of one photo.

Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
Maybe it's a flashback to explain the name "Oakenshield," like if Bilbo asks why that's his name. It's a bit of a stretch, but I think the battle in the picture is the same one when he uses the oak branch?

Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
Theres a full row (at least one) of heavily armoured dwarves behind them in that pic- if its indoors that makes the Goblin/dwarf wars the most likely, if its outoors I'd put my money on outside Moria.
And the architecture for Dale is def wrong I agree Eldo- to my mind its not appropriate at all for a northern climate.
Thats more I would imagine houses in Dol Amroth and coastal southern Gondor to look.
Mmmm- I hope not but could this be a bluff? PJ said a one point recently they were covering events happening across ME- I remember commenting at the time it was odd as TH events (appendix included) are all in the North, hardly all ME, but assumed he was just making a too general comment.
But maybe, just maybe he meant it- and this is really a pic of somewhere in Gondor! And wasn't there mention somewhere of a shot of Gandalf riding across a desert?! Harad!! (Ok its getting late here and buckie 4 is near the bottom, wait no! hold on I was looking at buckie no. 3 Whoo half a bottle left still. Mmm, better get the other crate )
Your Majesty!! Um,

Who's the artist on that one, Chris? I can't tell if it's following the film's design or just happens to be rather similar to John Howe's Bag End.

I tried doing a reverse image search on Google but it came up blank. That's odd, but I like the picture. I haven't seen many Middle-earth paintings in that style before.

Gollum looks evn more 'there' as it were than he did in LotR's- the cgi work is uperb. If I have a gripe (and dont I always) its that he is a bit too thin- at this point he is getting regular meals and not much excercise- whereas he looks as thin there as he did in LotR's where he goes without much food for long periods and is constantly on the move.

come on why should they care about continuity now? He's gonna be schizophrenic Smeagol/Gollum rambling to himself as much as he talks to Bilbo anyways and we gotta have the tunnels light enough to see him perfectly even though Tolkien described them as pitch black basically... why should they care now? heck they wanna extend the films to 3 so they can show Gollum leaving his cave and talk to himself even more
