I've always been under the impression that the Banks clan's sexuality is much more fluid than any simple label can express.

Once inside the Muck and Duck
(a premises of uncertain reputation)
the Traveller bought Orwell a beer,
then with a look of grave expectation,

Asked: "Tell me of the Bankses, Sir,
Are there one or two or more?"
"That's the very question we all ask,
Let's play pool, I'll set the balls!"

And while playing a round of pool,
These fine hobbits had a chat,
Throughout which questions were asked,
And Orwell kicked the ostlers cat.

(Orwell might not be good at pool,
But he still played as if for Sheepstations,
He was a boorish drunken frustrated type,
A perfect example of his Nation! )

Anyway, they chatted on -
while the cat mewed sadly in a corner -
Orwell said, "The Bankses are a special case,
Not so much 'hobbits" as queer transformers.

Some say they're one or more -
as afore here we mentioned -
not only that - it's said they're multi-sexual -
which adds another odd dimension!"

"Multi-sexual!" the newcomer gasped,
"You mean Hermaphrodites?
Girls with dicks and boys who sit
on the toilet seat at night?"

"Who can be sure at any time?
The goal posts change a lot with them -
He or She - in case they're only really One -
The whole thing is confusing... Have you a pen?"

"A pen?" "I'll write down an address,
It's the address of Odo Banks,
Why not go up and ask him yourself?"
The Traveller gasped: "No thanks!"

And so the Traveller caught a coach,
Back to salty Cornwall-by-the-Sea,
And he never worked out this Banks business -
And if it's good enough for him -
it's good enough for me!

Bilbo and the trolls



Bilbo seems to be 'comically' running between them only to run into what looks like a pointy stick being held by one of them. At least I hope thats a stick!

Gollums Lake- good to see his boat is there- I do hope he still paddles across the Lake- that could be really creepy done well.

Not sure what this about. Impressive set but completely wrong architecture for the north of ME- I can tell you from experience those roofs wouldn't last a single northern winter of gale force winds, snow and rain.
The other thing is Lee describes it in the blog as an 'abandonded city'- I hope its not meant to be literally abandoned and is still standing there like this- Smaug destroyed it.





The first I assume is a warg- but what the hell is the second thing- that head looks worryingly dragon like! And are those the stubs of wings on the side?

Except for my discussion on The Hobbit on the gentle planet and I have gone from daily to every other week , i am too fatigued in mind at present, except for that , i must admit i have been so disappointed from a purely Tolkienish view point that i never even think about the production at all.

first of all. The troll scene looks ok. It's supposed to be comical. second. Martin Freeman is adorable in that huge chair. third. yes, those eyes are very light, but I'm guessing it is because of the cameras, remember when they had the blog about mirkwood and they talked about how the camera sucked out the colour so that they had to add more, I think that that's the case here. And I am pretty sure it isn't Legolas on the wire. fourth. Abandon city is worringly, but it is pretty clear in the book (and the song) that Smaug destroyed it all, but I am guessing it is some sort of flashback. fifth. The green thing, they are not so stupid to make him ride Smaug, it's probably an eagle.

Could well be an eagle Norc, that did occur given the size, but the head didnt look very eagley to me. (and I have my doubts that they are not that stupid).
I think it is Leggy on the wires- that bit of the blog is the bit he is in, and he is clearly got wires on during it and is fighting in front of a green screen same as here- and bad enough him leaping about like a fool without someone else doing it too.

You could be right about the eyes- hadn't thought of why particularly, just noted he looked different because of them.

And if Dale is a flashback then we must be getting a resonable amount of footage set there to warant the time and expense building their 'biggest set ever'.

yes its definately an eagle Norc, and its not Legolas on the wire as you said Norc, its someone with brown/red hair its probably Tauriel, also that is not Billy Connolly if they are talking about the man with black hair in the first picture this man is much younger.

And if it is someone else is on the wires are all the elves going to inexplicably leap about like Legolas- even though they didnt during the Last alliance scenes or Helms Deep in PJ's LotR's?
