Unfortunately Petty, our parents generation, who knew all these benefits, are now the ones who want to throw the next generations over the cliff. I still don't know why.

Actually I think technology is partly to blame. It's supposed to make our lives easier, but we spend a lot of money paying for it! Add to that the population explosion with limited resources being spread more thin...though I suppose in Europe the population has stabilized a bit more.

{{{ Philip Hammond, the Chancellor, says he will resign if Boris becomes PM on Wednesday ( which at this point does seem likely). So good start. I think Boris is probably one of the first PM's to have resignations before he even gets the job! }}

{{ We are up to three Tory resignations now, thats the Chancellor Hammond, Justice Secretary David Guake and now Alan Duncan has resigned as Foreign Office Minister. Thats three resignations just at the thought of Boris as PM from his own party. And he hasn't even been voted in yet! }}

If I were to guess, I'd say these sound like career politicians making a calculated career decision, something like, "odds are I'm going to get fired by this guy sooner or later, so how do I slip out of the room with the least drama now and see if I can dust myself off later?"
Does that sound about right?

{{ Partly Dave, but there is an unmistakable undercurrent here of not liking Boris too.

Thing shave been moving apace- yesterday the Lib Dems elected their first ever female leader just as they are fighting back in the polls. And very shortly the result of the leadership election will be announced and we will have our new PM. Going to be a shocker after all this if its Hunt! }}

Wait, praising his opponents? After several years of Trump I forgot that used to be normal in civilized countries. He also used multisyllabic words like "simultaneous" and "irreconcilable". I really don't see what you have to complain about.

{{ You are falling for the style Halfy. Mad This is how he does it, this is why he is more dangerous than an obvious Trump type. Watch it like you would an actor performing a well rehearsed role on the stage, every fumble deliberate, every seemingly spontaneous aside pre-planned and prepared.

For example he outlines the very real problem of a divided nation at 3.50, laying out both sides in equal respect of each other, acknowledge those on the other side as holding a worthy position, taking him up to 4.20, at which point he cleverly goes into a little sidetrack, pointing out the naysayers saying its impossible, which lets him make his prepared segue into his very small, but crucial in term of diversions and timing, Financial Times gag at 4.30, in turn this lets him get into his rousing finale via another gaga about Dud and dude.
Notice something though? He completely dodged giving any sort of answer whatsoever to the very major issues he himself highlighted as facing the nation.
It leaves the inattentive listener to get swept up with the impression he somehow addressed the division point and does so in a manner that leaves on an upbeat note and therefore positive lingering memory.
Its Boris in a nutshell, too clever by half, got the right words, but the cupboards are bare. There is not a drop of substance. But these little techniques and tricks have allowed him to sail all the way into being PM without ever having had any convictions of any sort outside of an ambition to be PM.
He is and always has been a political wind-sock, he faces whatever way the prevailing political winds are blowing.}}

{{ Boris's first speech as PM. You can tell he studied classics and has authored books on Churchill. He has the words and the rhetoric and the mimicking of Churchill's tendency to start low and small, personal and to the masses, then build towards a crescendo, but there is not substance to anything he promises, no means, to plans. Just his continued bluff of optimism that all problems will somehow dissolve away in an instant now he is PM. }}

{{ Boris' promises- }}

   To leave the EU by 31 October
{{ Presumably still with no deal if need be. Which everyone bar him, Farage and Mogg think will be a disaster. }}

   To negotiate a new withdrawal agreement with the EU
{{In 3 months. Strike a deal that no one else has managed in 3 years that will pass the House. During most of those 3 months the EU council is not even sitting to negotiate with. And when there is no more evidence that there is a majority in the House for any plan than there was before this whole Tory leadership diversion started. And if he fails he says we leave anyway without one.
Worth noting here that if we leave without a deal then by definition there is automatically a need for a border in Ireland, as N. Ireland and Southern Ireland would be two separate trading and political areas sharing a landmass, and no agreed deal between them for the sale and transport of goods. But Boris says the one thing that will never happen is a border in Ireland. But if he doesn't get a deal by October 31st then he says he will leave without one, creating a border in Ireland! }}

To recruit 20,000 new police officers
{{ Laudable I'm sure, no idea who will pay for them, and of course be several years before they actually hit the streets as full cops, and as policing is devolved across the UK nations it only effects England and Wales.}}

To ensure the wait to see a GP is less than three weeks
{{ First- 3 weeks? How bad have you let the NHS get in England?!! Apart from that again devolved issue, only affects England. Doesn't say how he is going to achieve it either.}}

To provide "20 new hospital upgrades"
{{ Still just England. And again where are these 20 hospitals? How many were being upgraded anyway before he became PM today? Hows it been costed? What was the last 10 years of utter austerity misery all about then when we've apparently all this cash? }}

To fix the social care "crisis"
{{ Need I mention, just England again. And uncosted and doesn't say how. }}

   To increase funding for primary and secondary schools
{{ Laudable, again uncosted, and again just England. }}

To unite the country
{{ I feel I need only point out how many of his spending pledges here are for just England. }}

To deliver "higher wages, a higher living wage, higher productivity"
{{ Minimum wage and living wage are devolved, so just England again. Central Scotland is as productive as the south of England. }}

   To tackle climate change and create green jobs
{{ Very noble. How? }}

   To boost the UK's biotech and space science sectors
{{ Whose paying for that then? Corporation tax cuts, lowering of business rates, eroding workers rights under the guise of freeing business from unnecessary red tape? That sort of thing Boris? Sort of thing that by pure coincidence would best benefit you and all your chums! }}

To change tax rules to incentivise investment
{{ And there we have the confirmation. }}

To do more to promote the welfare of animals
{{ Everyone loves a cute animal, sound words with no policies behind them whatsoever. }}

   To ensure EU citizens have the right to remain in the UK after Brexit
{{ Because otherwise our NHS, care home and social services, and hospitalities industries will collapse overnight. }}

{{{ Blimey Boris is culling and ministers are walking!
Looks like by morning almost the entire cabinet will be different.
Su prising moves include sacking Liam Fox, a staunch Brexiteer. But the list of those who have walked before the push is far larger than those who have been pushed. I can't recall ever seeing this many Minister willingly resign their Cabinet posts at a change of PM.

Ok here's goes

Bradley the N Ireland secretary-resigned

Hammond- Resigned

Liam Fox- fired

Brokenshield (Housing minister) resigned.

Grayling (Tranpsort) resigned

Mordaunt (defence)- declined to serve

Clark (buisness sec) resigned

Stewart - resigned

Guake- resigned

Liddington- resigned

and its not over yet!}}
