Re: Tales of Home [9]
We just got word that the NBC news story has been rescheduled for next Saturday. That's the way the news cycle roles I guess...
I'll keep you posted and hopefully put up a link when it's available.

Re: Tales of Home [9]
Not any of our tales of home, but a young Canadian talking about what she loves living as an ex-pat in England. I'm posting it not because of anything particularly insightful she says, but because I love the way she uses her hands! (you don't notice it until she begins to really gets to the topic at, uh, hand) Every phrase seems to have a gesture, and I'm sort of miffed the camera cuts off the lower half of her body so we miss half of it. I think I need to work on using my hands/arms more when I talk - maybe I do and I just don't notice it. Yeah, lots of people talk with their hands, but for some reason this just struck me I think because of the camera perspective that accentuates whatever is closer to the lens.

So our story has been bumped at the last minute from the NBC Saturday Evening News twice now. The first time was for a story about a music teacher who punched out a student, and last weekend for the California wildfires. Our story just doesn't have the same level of drama {thankfully! )
Hoping to finally see it this weekend.....
I'll post a link when I get one.

Re: Tales of Home [9]
Every now and then I look at that map of North Cove with streets sticking out into the ocean and think I'll have to find time to get around to that satellite analysis. It really should only take a weekend to get it started - though I've realized that since you're on dial-up turning the data collection over to you isn't viable. I may do the set-up where I whittle the maps down to size and do a first crack at classification, then turn it over to you for completion. Don't see this happening until deeper into the winter though.

That would be really cool if/when you get around to it Halfy! I often find myself driving to a faster connection when I need to download something big. Here's a link to Dept. of Transportation drone photos of the erosion that I haven't gotten to yet, but I hear it needs to be seen. ftp://ftp.wsdot.wa.gov/incoming/US105WashAway_12OCT18/

Re: Tales of Home [9]
I couldn't connect. But the landsat images through the years is what's needed. I'm thinking once every 2 months going back 10-15 years, though we can go back to the 70's with Landsat.

I think going back to 2006 would capture everything I'd need. That would include the 2007 El Niño and the Great Coastal Gale which was a game changer for our baseline. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Coastal_Gale_of_2007

{{Nice one Dave- the tv folk must have loved you, everything they like- to the point, clear explanations of the problem and proposed solution, and an explanation for how it works, all in easy to digest to the point explanations suitable for a news broadcast, and if I may say a touch lyrical in your choice of wording too- good job all round }}}

Fingers crossed for your world Dave. I think you did a great job in that interview. You know your stuff, your intelligent & that's the best thing to get noticed. Hopefully you will get the help you all need. As you say, you cant fight mother nature but, you can walk along side her. Good luck !

Hey neat! It's too bad they cut out the segment where you showed off your collection of erotic vegetalia, but oh well!

Re: Tales of Home [9]
I really hope it works Dave. It seems to be a solution which doesn't effect the way the place looks because you are using natural materials you would find on a beach like driftwood. Huge slabs of concrete would look horrible. 75 feet in a year is a lot.

Re: Tales of Home [9]
That was quite a story! Were you happy with how they edited down your interview?
Looks like they did the first-pass imagery already, but it would be fun to do a deeper dive.

Ah...just noticed those "images" went back to 1945. I suppose they were using a Wakandan satellite.
