Re: Game of Thrones [2]
- Spoiler:
- Because they have already given her too much. I am not averse to her having kill the Night King (the manner in which it has all happened is something entirely different) but what is the point of everyone else and the world they have tried to set up if you end up with one super hero character doing it all?
Jon will do it but wont take the throne!
Re: Game of Thrones [2]
I agree with half of what Halfwise said: episode 2 has been the best episode so far.
Last night's episode was in very poor taste. None of these characters deserve what's happened to them.

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
The characters didn't get what they deserved, they got worse: what simplified storyline service demanded.
The Hound got Cleganebowl because that was always going to be the end of his life.
Jamie and Cersei died in each other's arms because that's their whole life.
Varys the master of whispers gets snitched on and executed.
Dany turns into the mad queen because she's been too noble but turning bad has been foreshadowed.
Arya rides off on a white glowing horse because after killing the night king she's some goddamn angel or something.
It's all too damn pat. It's not the real storytelling WE deserve.

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
I must admit I am responding to it all as Monday night entertainment and not much more. I am sad to see the end of characters who have been part of my life for 8+ years, I feel like I know them or are part of a weird tv family. I believe that they deserved better, well some of them. Euron was a comedy villain and didn't deserve that much time, I didn't mind Cercei and Jamie dying in each others arms, that seemed fitting, although it cancelled out his character arc in a way, if he had really changed he would have stayed with Brienne, but I guess Cercei was his drug. Cleganebowl was a bit predictable and very sad, and he too lost his character arc, but on the other hand he remained true to himself, killing his brother was his drug. I was very disappointed in Arya's last minute change of character, but on the other hand maybe this was the last time Arya would be a vulnerable young girl, and the trauma cancelled it out, she is now fixed as killer Arya. My biggest beef is Dany, either she suddenly flipped and went barking mad, but there didn't seem to be a good enough reason for it, the slow unravelling of her mind needed more time to develop, and the paranoia and betrayal didn't seem bad enough. If this is what JRR Martin had in mind that's fair enough, Dany as Mad Queen is maybe what he imagined so D&D were following that road, but it left me cold, but maybe it was meant to. I have conflicted ideas about it, I think however I will be left unsatisfied by the ending unless they surprise me in the last episode.

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
You should look up the interview compilation of the cast talking about the series... they all seem less than impressed!
HBO wanted this to go to 10 seasons. D&D wanted to go and only agreed to do 13 more episodes even though HBO pretty much said "but we will give you whatever budget you want."
The viewers are the victims of a TV company that didnt have the balls to get someone new and producers who couldn't wait to get out of it all.
I might double protest the Star Wars films (Disney and D&D with one stone... or should they know by Triple D... or D&D&D...?)

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
The Hound sending Arya away was the only plot element that felt worthy. Varys' execution would have felt okay if done a bit better. He should have said something truthful and cutting to her right before his death.

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
I think what plagued me the most about Daenerys’ downfall wasn’t that her eight-season character arc set her up for greatness, only for her to come crumbling down with the walls of King’s Landing. Maybe it was my fear that Jon Snow will take the Iron Throne. Screw—and I cannot stress this enough—that.
The women of Game of Thrones are the northern star of this show. Arya, Sansa, Cersei, and Daenerys have all been through more and overcome more than Jon Snow could ever imagine. The women on this show persist. They endure. They grow stronger despite their wicked circumstances. And despite it all, with one episode left in the series, I worry that a man who is weaker emotionally—and, let's be real, weaker as a warrior—than many of his female counterparts will take the Throne and helm Westeros. Snow represents, to me, all the ways in which male mediocrity is often heralded over female greatness.
Ugh, Jon Snow.
So if this show ends with Snow on the Throne instead of warrior princess Arya, the durable Sansa, or even the Mad Queen herself, this entire thing was a waste of my goddamn time. I think that’s really what hurts the most about watching Daenerys becoming the Mad Queen: I couldn’t even enjoy the twist, because my stomach churns thinking about what could come next: a man bun swooping in to “save the day.”

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
The main problem is the cramming in of 3 seasons into 1 season. People wouldn't be as angry if they had taken the time to do it properly.
My biggest beef is with the massive amount of time spent on the 3-eyed raven, it amounted to nothing more than Bran sitting around looking moody. it sucks.

Agreed. I think without book guidance they were too weighted down and just wanted to get done with it.

Had dinner with someone last night who made a brilliant prediction:
"Drogon will sit on the Iron Throne, from which he will institute a socialist democracy in Westeros."

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
don't worry I have not written any spoilers in this post, even in the spoiler thingie.
ok I looked at the leaks because I wasn't that interested and I didn't want to be any more pissed off than I am already. Now I can take it as entertainment and not be too upset.

I'm sorry to hear that you'll need to shrug it off. For my own sake at least, I hope your spoilers were wrong!

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
I actually really liked it. It made me cry, twice. Its quite heartbreaking to say goodbye to beloved characters after 10 years. I know its silly, but there it is, I thought the ending was apt, and bitter sweet.

How did my addition end up 2 spaces above where it should have been? I just added it 4 hours after the one that followed it! Yet there it is, 3 slots up.

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
Ghost is the goodest boy in the North!
I was waiting for Greyworm and Jon to have it out... thought Jon's scene with Dany could have done with being another minute or two as he weighed the decision, promised her and some time to see the hope in her eyes and then done the deed.

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
World class garbage. If it's true what I've read about the show's creators knowing how it would end I'm not even sure I'll bother with the books. Bran and Sansa, the two most boring characters in the entire series (TV and books - at least they got that right), ending up with all of it, and Jon back to square one. BRAN???
Only suitable quote that comes to mind is Eric Cartman's "Screw you guys, I'm going home". Good job, D&D - your grand finale made me think of south park.

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
Remember GRRM is two books behind, and increasingly divergent from the show. Even though the grand plot lines should be the same, the setup could be completely different. I know from reading synopsis of most books....well, synopses always suck. The show turned into a synopsis.
For example of why I say synopsis sucks: "Frodo, part of a group that are a dimunitive offshoot of humans, inherits a a ring that is secretly very powerful but evil. The wizard gandalf convinces him to flee to the powerful Elf Elrond, who advises him to go with a small group of companions into the land of the enemy to drop it into a volcano to destroy it. On the trip they are first waylaid by wolves, then by goblins as they go under the mountain to escape the wolves. They end up in the land of Lorien, ruled by the powerful Elf Galadriel...."
Well, as you can see it has no kick. Tolkien of course did a masterful job of synopsis for TT and RotK, but normally it just doesn't work.

I assume you have read the books that are out so far?
I think the major difference you will see is that a lot of motivations and reasons for things happening will become much clearer. Bran and Sansa are both point of view characters so we wont have to try and guess what they are doing/thinking as it will be on the page.
Same with Dany and Jon. We will read a lot more of what they are going through rather than having to guess why we think they may have done what they did.
The book versions of those characters should (and GRRM may still fuck it up) be much better than what we ended up with from D&D.
Re: Game of Thrones [2]
Yeah, Lance, twice . And those are some very good points you make, I didn't think about that at all after that Branny disaster. I'm guessing I will read the last books if they're ever finished, but that ending did actually make me care a whole lot less for the story. It's just I can't stand Bran or Sansa, book and show alike. On the other hand, GRRM is probably capable of handling this right, D&D were obviously not. Still a huge disappointment. God damn it

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
I dont know what he is like in the books but Bran is a huge let down. All the time they took to travel to the 3 eyed Raven, Meera lugging him half the way through the snow, and she doesn't even get to sit at the lords and ladies table? Bran did nothing in this last two seasons, just sit there looking myopic and irritating. His dialogue was boring, and he was boring. if this is Martin's idea, it sucks. I am still upset about Dany being killed, its just not right.
