Re: Game of Thrones [2]
I did. I sure as heck cared and worried about the fate of Hodor, Summer, Barristan Selmy, Princess Shireen, Brother Ray, Blackfish and Rickon. I cared for all those characters a lot.

Oh, you're talking about season 6, I was talking about season 7.

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
season 7 was nowhere near as good, so I agree with you about that. Its like they ran out of steam a bit, still enjoyed it, but it didn't reach the highs of season 6. I don't think anything could really.

Lady Stoneheart will be important in the upcoming books.

Yep, two characters were literally left hanging.

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
Now what kind of author would do such a thing

Tour the Game of Thrones Set with Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen)
I like Emilia Clarke, she comes across as a good person.

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
its always lovely to see them, its going to be (almost) as sad a seeing the cast of LOTR break up. 7 years is a long time, but its probably longer than that.

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
Of those deleted scenes I can see why the cut the Varys and Littlefinger one, it wasn't up to the subtle standards we've come to expect from those conversations.
It was too bad the Pycelle scene was cut. I don't remember what happened to Pycelle in the show; they may have decided to keep that plot point up their sleeves to use for later.

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
No one* could have possibly seen this coming!
*Except everyone.
In all seriousness though, GRRM's Targaryen histories so far have been great so I'll probably check this out at some point.

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
Someone on Reddit had a funny/sad/interesting observation:
https://www.reddit.com/r/asoiaf/comments/8ev3sd/spoilers_extended_fire_blood_releasing_nov_20th/dxyarqu/
It's still fascinating that in September 2015, he was sure he could finish it by December 2015. But now in April 2018, he knows there's no way it's coming out in 2018 at all.
That's an incredible regression in 3 years. I'm much more interested in a tell-all "what the hell happened" memoir than TWOW itself.

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
This time I think even I am facepalming, he'll use basically 9-10 years on this book.
I know becoming the most famous person in the world, inspiration for and writer on the biggest tv-show in the world, being wined, dined and celebrated wherever you went would remove the focus of anyone, but when we are nearing 10 years I think he has to start questioning his own progression.
At least he has seen so himself, and have started to demure on other responsibilities as of a year or two ago.
What happened? Well, what I said above. What would you have done if you went from relative obscurity to the most famous person in the world like that, with everyone suddenly wanting a moment of your time.

The expectations are a weight, I can see escaping to work that carries less responsibility.

Perhaps it is a mix of all three. He certainly still have a genuine interest in the world, as he keeps producing broad volumes on its history.

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
Random aside, as the people in Eldo's reddit link were talking of other fantasy series: It is odd, I think the fantasy story I have enjoyed most reading in the wait for WoW was U.K.Le Guinn's Earthsea, even if the latter books are more haphazard. Something refreshing in simplicity methinks.

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
I still haven't read that, perhaps due to being exposed to 10 minutes or so of an execrable TV version.

The original triology is very short and sweet

I wonder if there is a regret at the TV series. In year 1 he still had plenty of time to write but as the pressures of the show catching up mounted, so did the pressure to write. Now it has overtaken him, someone is already telling the rest if the story and even if there are differences it is still going to be the basic premise that is already out in the world.
For me, that would remove a lot of my inspiration and drive.
