If the Lady of Winterfell asks you to do Tequila shots, protocol compels you to comply.

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
I don't subscribe to cable services I'll have to figure out how to watch it. This is one I'm not willing to wait a year for Netflix to come out with it.

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
Trying to figure out how to watch it without cable, and came upon this:
Where to watch 'Game of Thrones' in Colorado if you don’t have HBO
. For the night is dark and full of paywalls
Listing of Bars to go to. Hmm...I should check that out for NYC.

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
bit noisy though, you need a bar with no people in it.

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
No the bars are dedicating that time to watching it. One right near me, but the website isn't responding I'll have to pop out and see what's going on a bit later.
It's a place I don't go to because I usually hate the music they play, but they have good food and cocktails.

Of course, you'll have to endure all the dumb cheering when character X appears and says some stupid one-liner about fucking* dragons or whatever.

Fucking* dragons had not occurred to me until you mentioned it. (*verb not adjective.)
Place near me was sold out. I'll do a free week trial run of HBO then sponge off some grad students for further episodes. Grad students should be sponging off me, but my crest has fallen of late.

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
I'll have to go sponge off one of my relations. No HBO for me at home.

Sounds to me like the best way to see it - watch the episode, get warm with a couple of beers, then discuss it over a few more afterwards. I'd go if I could

Arg, just when I thought I had it figured out, social engagements will keep me away from the premier. Here's hoping HBO on Amazon Prime will have previous episodes.

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
Interesting first episode... apparently the shortest of the 6.
A while week to wait now.

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
- Spoiler:
- yep interesting but for me it lacked any emotional punch, the various meetings disappointed me, because it was one after the other and they didn't have time to develop any depth. The Starks are now so cold and snooty they rarely show any warmer emotions so it comes over as cold, if they are acting cold = no acting is happening, dunno I didn't expect or want gushing but nothing surpasses the first meeting between Sansa and Jon in season 6. The highlights for me were Theon and Yara, and Sam, was not keen on how Jon found out because it was in the crypt and it was too dark in there. I guess this was always going to be a slow catch-up episode.

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
- Spoiler:
- The Theon and Yara piece was the one that I thought was the worst... after all of that story Theon just swung by and picked her up, then goodbye.
I thought the scene with Sam finding out about his family was really well done. Arya and Jon was ok, Jon and Bran was ok.
They are essentially fitting in to 6 episodes what should probably be over 2 seasons. I think we are going to see a lot of things rushed over the next 5 weeks.
Re: Game of Thrones [2]
I had been looking forward to the reunions, but then I watched the episode and I realized that I had been looking forward to the reunions of these characters as they were in the first few seasons. These cold, calculating, bitchy, shallow, in one case completely robotic, echoes I could not care less about. I hope the show-runners off them in droves, swiftly and without mercy.

Fair play.
Re: Game of Thrones [2]
Well, let's be honest. They've earned their cold bitchiness.
What makes kids so attractive is they haven't learned to shield and restrain their emotions. Adults also learn to be less judgemental as we look back on our past fuck-ups. I think only Tyrion still has room for that.
The characters in fiction are attractive because they are allowed by the medium to be more expressive than is often allowed in real life. Seinfeld was a revelation because it allowed characters to be expressive about how cold and calculating they really were - I think GoT is showing us more of the unfun reality.
