I wonder if there is a regret at the TV series. In year 1 he still had plenty of time to write but as the pressures of the show catching up mounted, so did the pressure to write. Now it has overtaken him, someone is already telling the rest if the story and even if there are differences it is still going to be the basic premise that is already out in the world.

For me, that would remove a lot of my inspiration and drive.

yep me too. it must be hard to watch other people take his story away from him, but on the other hand he allowed it by not writing fast enough. or maybe he didn't give the tv writers enough info to work with before it diverged too much, or maybe the story had to be simplified for the tv format, timing, and maybe they didn't want a cast of thousands, and the series to last twenty years, the list is endless. But yeah I wouldn't like it either.

This list actually had a few things I didn't know (thought it uses flash so chews up CPU time).  #1 is my favorite:  GRRM's wife told him that if he killed off either Arya or Sansa, she would divorce him.

I would have been happy for Sansa to have been killed off in the first couple of seasons.

Anyone notice how the Starks in TV land seem to have a lot of thoughts for their dad but very little (I can't remember any) for Robb or Catelyn? There was a little for Rickon but not much.

Sansa is fabulous Mad

its a paternalistic society, the father was more important. Also they love Jon and saw how Catelyn treated him so badly, his 'dad' always treated him well.

I don't remember anyone holding resentment against Catelyn for how she treated Jon.

Yeah, only Jon felt that resentment. She tried to hide it. In the books it was very clear she kept her feelings hooded out of propriety, but Jon felt it clearly. Not clear anyone else even noticed it.

Figgy - Sansa wasn't fabulous! She needed to be tortured and killed early on. I like her now though... good character development there. She has been tortured and nearly killed which allowed her to grow up.

Re Catelyn... I think she has just turned in to another forgotten character. Poor direwolves have completely disappeared! I think ghost would have let Jon know he was shagging his auntie if they hadnt written him out!!!

I liked Sansa the stroppy naïve kid, she certainly has had an interesting character development, I preferred her in Kings Landing, she is very cold now.

I don't think she is cold... it looked like. It was going that way but I think she didn't go too far down that road before she got brought back.

Barks... don't know because they forgot Ghost existed.

I'd call her calculating, as in planning her multiple revenges to be served cold.

So old Valyrian is out as a show. If it gets rolled into the other stuff that's ok I suppose.

George r Martin mentions the end of Lord of the Rings and what a bittersweet ending it is. Seems Game of Thrones will end the same.
Always thought Jon Snow and Sam Mirrored Frodo and Sam. I think Jon just like Frodo will depart (die).

1.40 mins in George R Martin talks about LOTR's.

You may fall in love with the damn thing and not want to give it back. These days decent size/quality TVs don't have to break the bank - beyond a certain point increased resolution doesn't help anything except the company you pay the inflated prices to. I'd be surprised if you can even buy a HD telly these days with resolution so poor you notice the difference: remember you are sitting at least 5 feet away. The main thing is color saturation, but that's not really reported in the specs.

I didn't pay much for my version, but it looks better than some that cost more. I ordered blind and got lucky. If you are ever in a big city and can wander by a window full of screens that's probably the best way to pick your model. Then go online and get it cheaper. I have an insignia, very vivid colors.

Yeah it's nice when the top-of-the-line TVs have all these things that I don't give two shakes about, like being "Smart" and 3d and concave and whatever else. 'Cause then the TVs without those things are affordable and just as good, for me.

The one problem with affordable flat-screen TVs is the terrible sound quality. The built-in speakers on most are just crap in my experience, and require a separate receiver with speakers.

You can't plug in your own set of speakers? I use headphones, but then I live alone and am in an apartment.
