Re: Game of Thrones [2]
Yeah, the Dunk & Egg stories are really good. I think a miniseries based on the Dance of the Dragons (one of the Targaryen dynastic civil wars), which Martin has written two historical novellas about, would be more in line with what people expect from/like about GOT, though. The cast of characters is less fleshed out than in D&E, though the major ones are pretty colorful and memorable. I'm sure that one of the things they're considering is Robert's Rebellion, though I feel that doing something set a little earlier (or hell, even a sequel) would be more interesting since RR is referred back to so much in the main story already.
Re: Game of Thrones [2]
And, of course, it would suffer from the slight dramatic problem that we already know who lives and dies and the general arcs involved.

And now there was nothing but the roofs of houses, sweeping along like a great torrent of stones and rocks. Chimney-pots fell, and tiles flew from the roofs..."

Well, we knew that for most of GoT anyway.

Casual viewers did not, however. As events like the Red Wedding demonstrated!

Because every now and then Blue needs to be gifted with an apoplectic fit.

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
Regardless of how much one enjoys the show or whether one thinks it's a more or less faithful adaptation, the statement that "the TV universe has eclipsed the books and become the Game of Thrones canon" is utterly meaningless to the point of just being trolling. If the author had stopped at "the TV universe has eclipsed the books" that'd be true, but that was also true after S3 at the absolute latest, maybe even earlier, since the books had never broken through into mainstream pop cultural relevancy. The second part of the sentence is just a contradiction in terms. The books, by definition, can not and never have been part of the "Game of Thrones canon" because Game of Thrones refers specifically to the TV series. And the TV show can not and never has been part of the book canon because of the inevitable differences made in the process of adaptation. This would be true even if D&D were super-faithful in their approach. I get that a lot of people don't really understand what the word "canon" means anyway but this is a particularly egregious misuse.

Hey! I was trolling for Bluefish...

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
I am nervous, but have a feeling that if I avoid a certain crabbit-drenched tumblr or whatever blog that a certain Scandinavian keeps posting links to, I may be able to enjoy at least parts of this next season. But we'll see.

He didn't take the last bait I posted, so the snarkitude is under wraps for now....but like a moth to a flame no doubt he'll be back to set us straight and save our artistic souls.

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
Grrr..
How hard is it to make sure one's opening credits look as though they were written by someone with even a passing understanding of the English language?
"Rebellion" capitalized when it should be lower-case. "Bethrothed"?? "Peytr" Baelish?!!?
Otherwise, good for them for making a fan film. Fun times.

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
Who are the enemies to the West? That's Lannister territory, unless the Tyrells are against them, which after blowing up Margery I suppose they would be.
