We'll see if maybe they do it right. If it's done right I'll have no complaints.

Re: Future releases [2]
{{ I saw an interview with the female writer of the Bond thing and it gave me some hope- Bond is still in it, its the 007 label thats getting passed on. She is not a female incarnation of James Bond just a female 007. And the writer said that whilst the films had to reflect the MeToo movement and the times we live in Bond himself also had to be Bond and stay true to his character.
So some hopes they actuall find a way to do it right. }}

Re: Future releases [2]
The article I posted said something along the lines of Bond will stay true to his character and the disrespect to women, but the film will not be disrespectful to women. Which sounds right.
But I didn't see Daniel Craig's Bond as carrying on the old Sean Connery/Roger Moore treatment of women. He had his heart broken when his love allowed herself to be killed, showed conflicted emotions about relationships after that (rather than anger towards women), and then basically ignored women if I remember it right. So in the upcoming film I can see him being somewhat brusque towards women but nothing more.

Re: Future releases [2]
Another thought - it would be kinda fun to have a female bond who breaks men's hearts and discards them, but you need a raving beauty for that. That's not Lynch. If they wanted to go with a black/brown woman Zoe Saldana could totally handle the part. But she's everywhere and probably wouldn't want to be tied down to this. I could see her as a female Bond all the way, except she's maybe a touch too young.

Re: Future releases [2]
I really cant stand this trend. Ghostbusters, Oceans 8, female Doctor, all bland and derivative rubbish on the bandwagon. Why tamper with the originals for the sake of diversity, why not just invent a new female character rather than rehash a previously classic male role. Its lazy and boring. 007 is a man, that's the point of it. Fleming wrote him as a hard man womanising shit, that's why we like him, even in 2019.

The narrow minded me thinks "oh FFS!". But Im a bit of a traditionalist & I want my own way, James bond & his number is male ! Im with Figgs on this, I am sick to death of twisting trends to make everyone happy. Lets re-do LOTR's. Gandy can be a black woman & Galadriel can be a gay white guy in drag, happy now ? All the men in all the Marvel films can be switched, Hulk could just be on her period that's why there's all this anger.

Re: Future releases [2]
I reckon a female Bond will just end up a Michelle Rodriguez. Well Michelle Rodriguez has got there first.

Re: Future releases [2]
Good call on Rodriguez and I agree with writing a new character for a woman. I can see her being pissed off and ornery rather than cool and suave but you love her anyway because she doesn't take any guff from anyone.
Edit: got curious and looked our girl Michelle up. Expelled from 5 schools as a kid, a list of speeding and drunk driving violations, seen messing about with both sexes but no long term relationships. And her smile is wickedly delicious. Yep, that's our girl.

"Jamie Bond" doesn't quite strike the bad-ass note, does it?

Re: Future releases [2]
Just realized, nobody could call "...the name's Bond, James Bond" an example of great writing, but in the hands of the right actor with the right director laying in that theme music into the shot like fine woodwork, it becomes pure magic. Execution is everything.

It's been how bloody long since Bond was a womanizer by today's standards? The '80s?Pettytyrant101 wrote:And the writer said that whilst the films had to reflect the MeToo movement and the times we live in Bond himself also had to be Bond and stay true to his character.
I don't recall Brosnan forcing women to the ground as they told him "No!". That was Connery a long-ass time ago.
Anyway, it's nice to hear that Craig is going to be in one more James Bond movie, but doesn't this casting choice mean that this new actress will take the role over entirely in the next movie? That does mean that "James Bond" movies won't be a thing any more. Now they'll be "007" movies. There's a difference, and I'm not going to pretend otherwise. Just more recasting for the sake of it.

Good point! The Bond character has been evolving for a very long time. Remember David Niven in Casino Royale? {{{ }}}

Yeah I can agree with that Figgs.
By the by, David Niven can't have been in the new Casino Royale. Is there an older version or something? I'm lost.

Yep, the true original. I think the main reason I've never made it through the whole film is because the music drives me batty. Like fingernails on a chalkboard. And it rarely stops.

What the freak is that trailer?! It has not aged... well.
All I really know is that Casino Royale is TOO MUCH for ONE James Bond.

Can't be any worse than the trailer. Challenge accepted.
Wait a second, it's a spoof comedy!
