I am not sure if it is an old wives tale, however I heard somewhere that Walt Disney wanted the movies to be remade ever 30 or so years to keep them relevant and in the forefront of peoples minds.
Could be bollocks though.
Re: Future releases [2]
Seems like bollocks, it's not as though he ever re-made one of his movies while he was alive, right?

Steamboat Willy was just itching to be remade.

Re: Future releases [2]
Why?
This whole Disney wanting remakes thing reminds me of how that one Tolkien quote is used to justify modern-day creators fiddling around with his world.

Re: Future releases [2]
Wow, the trailer for the live action Cats film is more than a little disturbing, who thought the CGI was a good idea?:

I wouldn't pay to watch it, but I'd be interested in seeing how they'd do a live action Fantastia...the original was trippy enough...

Re: Future releases [2]
Disney has a history of making these kinds of decisions around a boardroom table as they discuss things like "revitalizing the BRAND", then using the shotgun approach to implement.
The thing is, they occasionally get one right just on percentage. 20 years ago they had the crazy idea of trying to turn their 50 year old theme park rides into blockbuster movies to bring more traffic to Disneyland, and out of it came the 'Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise (but also 'Haunted Mansion"........ )

I remember seeing The Haunted mansion remake in the cinema, as a very easy to please 10 year old (who thought attack of the clones was the greatest movie in the world...), i thought it was boring crap then, wonder what id make of it now...

Re: Future releases [2]
well as it was set in space and the entire solar system I was expecting spectacular images from the planets, we didn't get that. It was a tired amalgam of Gravity and Interstellar, but those films did it way way way better. Brad Pitt looked and sounded like he was on Valium, totally one note boring performance. and to cap it all the entire message was based on the banality of YOLO. Yep, we know YOLO is important already. So it doesn't matter that they didn't find other forms of life in the solar system because what you have on Earth is more important and being married to Liv Tyler trumps aliens. K. The only interesting bit was on the Moon which had been turned into a mall, the message being is humans are crap no matter where they go.

Re: Future releases [2]
The audience score on Rotten Tomatoes is at 43%, while the critics score is double that! Hm... Some trickery perhaps, or else the average viewer doesn't "get it".
