Re: Future releases [2]
{{{MMmmmm- couldn't they find a Sottish actress to play Mary Queen of Scots!!
And why is the trailer full of pc nonsense about them being women in a world of men- their rivalry had nothing to do with men, or men wanting rid of Mary because she was a woman, it was about the fact Mary was Catholic and wanted a Catholic Monarchy, that was it. }}}}}

Re: Future releases [2]
It's clearly meant as a vehicle to show if two of the hottest young actresses in hollywood today can carry a period drama. Nothing to do with their nationality so long as they can look the part. I'm not sure it works - they both look too young (though perhaps that's historically accurate?)

Re: Future releases [2]
I think Margot Robbie just gets away with it but Saoirse looks to young to me. There is always a touch of glamour in historical films tho I prefer honesty over glam. I don't know why but I always assumed Mary had dark brown hair ? I may have been wrong. Two redheads in the same room ? must have been cracking rows

Re: Future releases [2]
{{My issue is more with content- one short trailer they play the strong women in world of evil men card several times over! and not once does the trailer mention the actual contentious issue that was the heart of everything between them- Mary's Catholicism. }}

I'm wondering how long they had to sit on top of Margot before she let them pluck her eyebrows. Poor thing looks hideous.

Re: Future releases [2]
{{Their brains need plucking! That Mary film would be like making a film about the relationship between Churchill and Hitler and producing a trailer where they talk only about the women in their lives as if they were the issue and forget to mention WW2! The whole deal with Elizabeth and Mary is it was about which religion the Monarch was going to represent and so shape the country- had Elizabeth not won we would have had no Elizabethean Renaissance, no Shakespeare! It was a hugely monumental pivot point but it was all about religion, not men doing the poor women folk down as that trailer seems to imply - the two most powerful people in the country were women!!! When you are Queen there is no fucking glass ceiling left to shatter! }}

Re: Future releases [2]
{{Cant imagine it seeing as almost everything he wrote and did would have got him killed under a Catholic regime.
Think it might be beside the point however that Elizabeth and Mary were not two poor women struggling in a world of men- they ruled the men, quite literally appointed by God. The issue was of religion not sexism. The trailer gets sexism in several times in a few minutes, it gets the main religious contention between them which is the heart of their story and their interactions and ultimately decides their fates, none, it doesn't mention it.
That smacks to me just from the trailer as a film more interested in pushing an agenda and rewriting the times than it is in telling the historical tale of Mary, Queen of Scots.
-for the record the historical Elizabeth and Mary never met, there was no war, there as a skirmish of sorts but it was in Scotland over Mary's son and if he should be heir and again came down to the same Catholic/Protestant arguments (there is also a complicated sub line here she married the man who probably murdered her husband and then she got blamed for the murder)-I always felt Shakespeare used this in Richard the III), her followers were eventually defeated at Langside and Mary fled south seeking help from Elizabeth- the English took her into 'protective' custody whilst her supporters kept up the fight in Scotland, she ended up in Westminster where the 'casket letters' were produced pointing to her conspiring to murder her former husband and conspiring with Bothwell that was it, Elizabeth had no choice but to off her (the letters are widely held to be fake and written by the Queens maid Mary Beattie, to ensure Elizabeth would support James as heir ahead of Mary as Queen) but it was not a war between England and Scotland as implied here in the trailer, at best it was a very small scale civil war in Scotland.}}

Re: Future releases [2]
Margaret Beaufort lived to be in her 60's & was deemed quite powerful. And there was another lady, I cant remember her name , she became very rich & powerful & lived into her 80's I think. They executed her in the end, might also have been called Elisabeth ? Elizabeth Woodville was a tough cookie also.

How's the historical accuracy of the radio adaptation?- David
{{better than that trailer still!
Here's Michelle Gomez giving Mary a proper Scots accent (though in fact she probably sounded French as she went there at age 3 and didn't return until she was 17)- but for those wondering what Glaswegian really sounds like, this is it (they subtitle it for your convenience! skip 20 seconds in for the start) }}}

Re: Future releases [2]
I kinda like these films a lot of people hate them, Aquaman looks just a tad better than "Justice League", which, IMO was a big bag of shat. All films have reels of CGI which is the recipe for fantasy films now. I do crave a film that is completely natural & where the actors had to dam well act. No pink, blue, red, yellow orange screen to get them out of a hole. Gritty stories, real facial expressions, & FFS decent dialogue, not this cut corners slang & cheesy repetitive lines that were amusing in the 80's but even granny is tired of hearing it !

GeeeeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEeeeeeez that's some anime-inspired toss. Those EYES.
I mean, what kind of in-story designer thought, "hey, let's give this cyborg insect-eyes!"
(Alita "Battle Angel", I mean.)
I thought James McAvoy was wonderful in Split, but I'm not sure the charm will last through a sequel.
Speaking of which, as derivative as parts of this trailer are (Our world is changing... ), I appreciated the use of "Clair de Lune" and actually quite enjoyed this one. A good trailer, I think, despite its flaws. Just the emotional appeal of the second half alone with that crescendo choral arrangement, goodness!
Funnily enough, there are two corollaries between this trailer and the one for Wakefield: the use of Debussy, and the presence of Bryan Cranston, who appeared in the previous American Godzilla film.
