Bindweed, These are a pain in the butt. Beautiful weeds but, they choke everything to death. Shame really, as the white flowers are stunning.
This leaf I liked as it had early morning dew on it.

Re: Tales of Home [8]
Hey we have something like that Azriel, but we call them Morning Glory.
I just finished disbudding the first three kids of the goat birthing season. An unpleasant, stinky, traumatizing experience as always!
My mom didn't realize that I was disbudding today and she ran out once she heard the racket. Nothing improves a stressful horn-burning operation like having your mom running out the door yelling about how one of the goats is getting bushwacked or something.
...I mean, what does she think, that a mountain lion is attacking smack dab in the middle of the morning??

Re: Tales of Home [8]
You use a hot iron to burn a ring around the base of their little horn buds. It burns down into the bone, cutting off any future blood flow to the horn and thereby keeping it from growing.
The burning takes about 10 second each horn, so at least it's not a long process.

We have the bindweed here to, especially around old farmsteads. It IS beautiful, but it's not native to this continent and I've more than once had uncharitable thoughts about the folks who brought it over on the ship (especially when it gets into our cranberry fields. ) As Forest says, a lot of people do call it "morning glory".

Yes Dave, I know what you mean We also have things to "thank" other people for. Like, snails, moonlight assassins they are. They lie in wait till a nice new plant is placed lovingly in the garden & then, when you go in for a cup of tea the buggers move in with military action. Leaving hardly a trace your beloved plant has gone, the only clue is a silvery slithery calling card heading off from the scene of the crime

The sun has set, and all the firecrackers of the day have been replaced by mortar fire in all directions. There's a BOOM! every two or three seconds, and soon it will be almost continuous, like a thunder storm. Happy 4th of July everybody!!!

Sounds like New York is way safer than Glasgow. Even the 'bad' neighborhoods.

{{{Glasgow is safe enough, relatively, sort of. Its just a wee bit...stabby... at times!
If you stick to the main areas and dont go wandering too far after dark you're fine, mostly....I once, when I lived in Glasogw fell asleep on a bus after a long shift and woke up in a part of the city called Nitshill- the name really does say it all. And it was end of the line, so I had to get off. The walk back through there at night was, interesting.
Out of curiousty I googled it just there and got this- reported 9 hours ago by the Scottish Sun-
'A man was rushed to hospital with “serious” injuries after a stabbing at a Glasgow pub.
Officers were scrambled to the Hazelwood Bar in the city’s Nitshill last night after the alarm was raised around 7.20pm.'
See, just a bit stabby.}}}

except for stabs not generally entering the cranium I might would rather take a bullet. But then again, stabbing usually happens in the middle of an adrenaline rush so you don't feel it so much.

Re: Tales of Home [8]
{{Survival rate for stabbing is much higher than for being shot- usually they get the person to emergency fast enough- its not that often its fatal- but there a lot of scarred faces and bodies in Glasgow! Just kidding its not that bad really, see below.
Stats wise ( I know how folk here love their stats!) for the last year on record homicide rates were at an all time low of 59 recorded homicides in the year. Of those -'Males accounted for 91% of those accused of homicide and 76% of victims' and 'in 56% of homicide cases, a sharp instrument (knife, broken bottle, sword, screwdriver or other pointed weapon) was used.'
Also - 'more than a third of those accused of homicide were under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs at the time.'
But Glasgow is not as bad as its reputation suggests, not any more-
'Glasgow recorded the most homicides of any local authority area last year with a total of 14 reported. That was down 56%...Over the last 10 years, Glasgow City has accounted for half of the total fall in homicides across Scotland....Ten years ago the Violence Reduction Unit was formed to tackle Glasgow's addiction to violence.' - BBC
You are more at risk form casual violence and intimidation and threatening behaviour than you are of actually getting stabbed in Glasgow. Although there some areas I'd still avoid if at all possible.
You are more likely to encounter something like this if trouble flairs- which if it doesn't involve you or your friends is mainly just spectator sport-
