{{Theres nothing new in it really, except sort of ish the school. But I assume you mean the council estate on the hill to the left of the grand house. As the stuff on the shoreline dates anywhere from the mid 1700's to the early 1900's.

Re: Tales of Home [8]
Just ball up a knot of hair in your fist and staple it. That's how a guy would handle it.

Re: Tales of Home [8]
I hated braids when I had long hair. Not that that's necessarily any consolation in this case...

Re: Tales of Home [8]
Wow! Your cranberry bogs really are close to the ocean! One wonders why Petty doesn't wash off in the waves after falling asleep in your fields.
I'm curious about the construction of sand dunes, as this is a measure much of the Jersey Shore washed away by Hurricane Sandy has invested in. I've never quite understood the emphasis on "sand", since they are nearly useless unless vegetated. Do you actually build dirt dunes with vegetation, and the sand builds up against them? Is the hope that the vegetation takes hold before the sand replaces it and it all washes away? This seems to have some subtle technical know-how involved.
It's cool, I think the only forumshire resident we've seen more of is Orwell's singing.

Re: Tales of Home [8]
That was really interesting, Dave. I think I remember you posting some pictures of erosion in your area before (unless I'm misremembering...?) but I didn't realize it was that bad. Really impressive that you've been working to preserve the shoreline on your own for now. Clearly a man of many talents. Where did you get for the grant from?
Re: Tales of Home [8]
I've always wanted to operate a steam shovel, and when doing site improvement projects for hang gliding deeply envy those who drive the machines. real men, those. Do you just teach yourself or is there some tribal knowledge involved?

Re: Tales of Home [8]
{{{Dave I cant say you've earned my respect for what your doing here (you did that long ago just by how you present yourself here) but you have my huge admiration to add to that for the work you are doing here- the work of King Canute no less! A daunting prospect and to have taken to the challenge and the defense of what is yours and your families traditions is hugely inspiring. I so hope it all works and you get the backing required from those in a position to offer it. You sure as hell deserve it. }}}
