Re: Doctor Who [11]
tuned back in to see some of Mcoys first episode and promptly left again
The way you phrased that makes it sound like you stumbled reluctantly into a horrible crime scene...though given Mcoy's reputation I don't think that's too far off the truth...

Are you talking to me or Petty?
It's none of my business (and I'm sorry If I offended you), but personally I wouldn't see the point, I'm a fan of the franchise, but it's a series that is built round the idea of constant change and infinite potential (as long as that potential can be filmed in a Cardiff Sounstage or abandoned quarry that is...) and I don't see the point in continuing to watch if I'm not currently enjoying the way it's written, when change could be just round the corner, tuned out halfway through Smith's tenure as he and the tone just didn't do anything for me, don't regret it (surprised I had the willpower to do it to be honest).

I was talking to Petty. You didn't offend me at all.
I think he would prefer it if I didn't pee on his parade or voice my opinion if it is negative. Bit like going to TORn if you are a PJ disliker, you always get told to shut up and go away.

Well I wasn't trying to offend either, merely pointing out, as someone who jut stops watching it when I don't like it until it changes again, and then see if I like the new flavour, that it puzzles me why you would keep watching for four years something you appear to hate every aspect of every week.

Says the bloke who has forced himself through hours of re-watching, pulling apart and reediting PJ's Tolkien films , don't get me wrong I admire the effort and enthusiasm you put into the edits but the irony is their in spades

Re: Doctor Who [11]
Well, Petty is a guy who, to my eternal gratitude, has spent a fair amount of time reediting Peter Jacksons Middle Earth movies, all the while complaining animatedly about them to anyone who would listen. As have we all about stuff we care to much about to stop watching, but don't enjoy anymore. I'm out of Game of Thrones, but I, somewhat to my regret, watched season 5. And so on, and so on. Let's not complain about people, who from their perspective are making valid complaints about things they used to enjoy. We can all do better than that, no?

Re: Doctor Who [11]
You just need to do what I did Figg when I couldn't take any more of RTD's crap, stop until another showrunner comes along- it will change again and again if it keeps going, thats how it survives. By definition some eras are not going to be to your tastes but they will always be to someone's- Orwell loves Pertwee era, I am not a fan of it. You love RTD I detest most of it. It changes, thats what it does.
But as to just not wanting you to say negative things, you can and will anyway quite rightly say what you like, I've no interest in closing that down, I just don't really understand it- if PJ made a Lord of the Rings spin of tv series and I thought every episode was terrible, I wouldn't keep watching it for four years just to comment on how bad it was every week.
Hope is one thing but four years? Especially went you don't need hope as you will know when it changes, as any new showrunner will be trumpeted all over the press.

Fair point Blue, my previous comment was not meant as an insult (rather, a weak joke), and if I have offended you Petty I can only apologize, I do really respect Petty for the dedication and thoughtfulness he puts into his arguments, and I couldn't imagine this forum without all the strong willed interesting debates we have here.
I guess I merely seem to have less/more willpower than some when it comes to complaining about shows etc I used to enjoy, if I'm not enjoying something I see little reason to subjugate myself to more of it (one of the reasons I haven't personally watched any fan edits for TH, I just can't be bothered too)

So, maybe were not that dissimilar.

First three season were pretty great.
Then it all went to shit.
Then again all the hallmarks of it going to shit were there in season 1 to 3.. I just didn't notice.. at the time..
Books are great though.

Re: Doctor Who [11]
Let's not complain about people, who from their perspective are making valid complaints about things they used to enjoy.- Blue
The issue was never the complaints, or any attempt to prevent Figg making her points- the question was over why continue to watch something she clearly dislikes, a LOT?
That's a valid question- if you look at my posts I rarely initiate discussions these days on PJ's films and usually only talk about them in response to points raised by others- and I made the fan edits precisely so I would never have to see PJ's versions again. Figg continuing for 4 years to watch something she continues to dislike more and more every episode would be like me continually re watching P's original films- which I just wouldn't do because I dislike them so much. And with Who you know it will change again, and when (though under Moffat Id say its made dramatic changes in everything from tone to format series to series anyway).
I hope Figg does continue to watch, I think this is going to be a great series, and if turns out to be Moffats swansong I'm pretty sure he plans going out on a win, and for me at least the start is very promising indeed.

I'm a massive geek who likes to argue about the minutae of geeky stuff, so Game of Thrones would appear to be a perfect fit...but it just seems like misery porn and over hyped i.m.o, other than Who I watch hardly any television drama at the moment anyway...
I always say to myself I'll read the books first...but at the rate G.R.R Martin writes the TV show will probably get rebooted by the time he wraps things up and I'm not sure if I could slog through 7 huge volumes...

Well...all the rumours for Magicians Apprentice seem to have turned out pretty accurate, there was one rumour for the finale (don't worry I won't spoil) which would certainly point to a win in my book in at least one regard...I'll leave it at that...
