I guess I shouldn't be in here yet. I'm going to see episode 3 tonight though.

Wait.. do you watch the show now-a-days Bluebottle?
Of course it isn't that bad. go into it with an open mind. the whole thing is terribly subjective.

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
My thought on the Tyrion bit.
- Spoiler:
- At first glance I was bored by the Tyrion/Grey Worm/Missandei exchange, but I have a theory they are setting up the two kids as future rulers of Meereen. They actually look like two Egyptian pharaohs in waiting. I think its Tyrions job to humanise them, give them the opportunity to heal their past hurts, which all helps when you rule a kingdom.

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
My sympathies, Blue. I bailed after five episodes.
I think GOT is better than Shannara still, though it's hard for me to make a direct comparison since I'm already invested and curious to see how GOT goes, despite the decline in quality, whereas I never got into Shannara very much in the first place.

Cripes, the greenscreen really screws up the magic.

well if everybody is going to be a mard arse and moan about GOT I wont bother coming here to discuss it, if theres not actually going to be any discussions apart from the occasional drip drip drip of bs comments of how shit it is, so I will just keep on trucking and avoid the fucking negative vibes. figgout.

I was saying the magic was there, until you see behind the scenes with the greenscreen. I hadn't realized just how much it was being used.

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
erm can I make a GOT thread for people who actually like the show? I may be the only one there but at least I can be enthusiastic in solitary splendour.

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
I'm afraid I don't really understand how other people disagreeing with you takes away the ability to enjoy the show "in peace". If you want to talk with a group of people who all like S5 and S6, then I'm afraid that you're not going to find that on this site, but I know there are plenty of places where the balance of opinion is different. But anyway, I'm down for any solution that sees an end to complaints about people disliking something popular, so if you do make a "GOT fans only" thread I won't infringe on your safe space.
Re: Game of Thrones [2]
I wasn't complaining about it. It may not be great anymore, but it's still fun. And I don't hold GRRM text as sacred.
Or we can find a site with dragons in lingerie sitting around looking pouty.

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
Eldo well you seem to have read my comments as being 100% serious. when they were about 20% serious. I have absolutely no problem with people disagreeing with me. yes we know some people hate the show but there is another thread called A Tale of Ice and Fire, where nobody would dream of piping up every 5 minutes that the books are shit. because that would be irritating wouldn't it. why would someone do that other than to spoil others enjoyment of the books. Giving detailed reasons and discussion is one thing but coming on a thread and just saying something is shit and then going is fucking irritating and pointless. call me old fashioned.
Petty and I have had major fall outs over the Who thread but at least we had the good manners to have a discussion/argument. even if it did turn out toxic we had a view point which extended past ''this show is shit''
also I resent the implication that I am demanding everyone like the show on this thread. bullshit to that. people are entitled to hate the show if they feel strongly about it, but what I dislike is just the casual drip drip of sarcastic comments that don't allow people to refute or debate. they are pointless comments and are just deliberate attempts to spoil the enjoyment of other people.

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
I think the simple answer to that is that all views are valid. And I do hope you realize my general over the top criticism of the show isn't 100% serious either. (My substantial criticism on the other hand is.)
I don't think anyone would aggrieve someone who had read the books and had substantial reason for disliking them or not rating them quality wise for stating so in the book thread. If others would be interested or not I think would rest on the fact of whether they found the criticism valid or interesting, and wheter it would lead to an interesting debate about the merits of Martins series. If not, they might not engage.

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
This actually, surprisingly, looks rather interesting.
http://www.internetremembers.com/

Fair Game is a documentary about the phenomenon of Game of Thrones, HBO’s hit epic fantasy.
Thanks to modern communications and cultural zeitgeist, Game of Thrones has become one of the most widely discussed subjects in the world, with millions of people from all over the planet participating in online arguments about the show. A significant number of those participants are highly critical of Game of Thrones – which is noteworthy in itself, as TV shows aren’t usually watched nor followed by people who dislike them. However, the many complaints are completely ignored by the mainstream media, which uniformly promotes the message that only a laughable minority of “nerds” could possibly have anything against Game of Thrones.
That is the topic of our interest: Why is the voice of dissent left behind? Why would any legitimate opinion, and especially one that is shared by huge number of people, be ignored and marginalized? What makes Game of Thrones so special, that the critique of it gets silenced?
We have tried to explore that topic in interviews with fans and professionals, through questions about Game of Thrones, television, drama, media, conformism, cultural models and Internet freedom.
Fair Game which centers on Game of Thrones is intended to be the first in a series of similar investigatory documentaries to be released on the Internet, the most open medium in history. Which is why the entire series and this website are titled The Internet Remembers.
As readers of the A Song of Ice and Fire (ASOIAF) book saga – George R.R. Martin’s source material for Game of Thrones – will know, The Internet Remembers is a title modeled after the phrase “The North remembers” from the novels. Of course, that is no coincidence, as the love for ASOIAF is the foundation on which we have based this documentary.

I've been on both sides of GOT discussions (both criticizing the show and defending it from more fervent critics than myself), and I don't think that anyone has been insincere or reluctant to defend their viewpoints. Not that I think people should be required to defend their opinions in a thread that largely consists of people popping in once a week to share their thoughts on the most recent episode.
I find your vaguely personal accusations (without naming names) to be uncalled for and struggle to think of a reason for making them other than attempting to discourage people from disagreeing with you. Certainly, vague insinuations do not "allow people to refute or debate".
