Re: Game of Thrones [2]
Haven't had a chance to watch the Alt Shift X recap yet, but my take on the final scene was that
- Spoiler:
- other than wanting to get people talking about the show even more, it's main narrative purpose is to introduce the "glamour" ability that Melisandre has. It might be involved with Jon's (probable) resurrection, or it might be used for one of the wildlings in a way more directly reminiscent of its use in the ADWD subplot where Mel's glamor was used in the books.

I think it's just making the point that a 30 something year old person would not have the kind of power she has.

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
Never said continuity was their strong suit.
There was that "I've been fighting longer than you" line from S2 or whatever so I could believe that the idea of Mel being older than she looks was in the back of their minds the whole time, but the necklace/glamour thing doesn't seem to have been.

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
I think the necklace is more symbolic than actually where her power comes from. when the red stone faded it was her hope and energy fading, I think her true power comes from her god and her inner fire, which went out when she saw Jon was dead. She has started to feel the cold of the North for the first time, the ice has entered her soul. She used her power to melt Ice using the sacrifice of an innocent so that the army could move, but it was a false use of her power and is now being 'punished'. Its very much like how Arya is now being 'punished' for using her power unwisely and for selfish reasons. Both Arya and Melisandre are at rock bottom and about as vulnerable and helpess as they have ever been, but they both have inner reserves of strength which will no doubt save them and redeem them. They are both assassins in their own way which could lead them into very dark places, they may use this period for reflection about their priorities and the way they use their various powers.

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
there's talk online that when Mel was naked without her necklace, only Serce was present, and the shock on her face may not have been from seeing Mel naked; she saw her as she was. I think this is giving D&D a bit too much credit, though.

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
if you notice in the end scenes of ep.1 , there is a very significant close up of a small glass bottle on her table. which is the same glass bottle which Melisandre emptied into her bath in the earlier scene. therefore I think the potion is what keeps her looking young, not the necklace. the necklace is symbolic, the potion is the real source of her power. maybe.

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
I still have no idea why The Roots spend so much time as a house band but they're fucking great at it.
Re: Game of Thrones [2]
Are you kidding? Getting a late show gig is about the best you can do.
When Jay Leno asked Brandon Marsalis to be his band, Brandon went back and told his band that, you know, musical integrity, and the inability to innovate, and selling out...yada, yada...so he said 'No'. The band replied with the basic "are you fucking out of your mind? Of COURSE we want the job! It's the Tonight Show!" So they took it.
Bands like the Roots don't really make a lot of money, and have to work their asses off to get it. It's only the top 0.2% of professional musicians that can make a great living out of it. A late show gig is a dream come true, meaning they can drop their second jobs.

Re: Game of Thrones [2]
Does everyone single one of these "in-depth whatever oh look at what you missed" reviews have to have those stupid red-circles in the video link image?
