Ivana or Ivanka? I'd vote for Ivanka, seems sweeter than Ivana.

Re: US General Election 2016
In Australia gun laws don't stop all the mentally unstable from acquiring guns, but prevents most, and we have less gun crime; while legitimate ownership still occurs. A conservative prime minister introduced our current gun laws after a mass shooting which outraged our whole country. The gun lobby was put in it's place without losing sensible rights to own guns. Maybe you should find a President who is a hard nut conservative (someone with balls, whether male or female) but who wants sensible gun laws. Then maybe America can bite the bullet, so to speak, and cut down on the number of mass murders of innocents. Your gun lawns are laughable, but where are the leaders with balls? In a way you're like those lawless places in the Middle East where life is not worth a cracker. The Wild East? The Wild West? Shit, in regard to gun laws, America is positively primeval!

Unfortunately in America that is a contradiction in terms.

Re: US General Election 2016
It did seem like one when our little Johnny Howard engineered our changes. Mind you, our gun laws were never quite as free and easy as yours, Halfy, so the changes were not as earth shattering as any change in America would be. Any President who made such changes would no doubt be assassinated, but he or she might take comfort in becoming a national Martyr revered by the Sane Minority. Wouldn't it be a grand irony if it was Donald Trump. That would sure be the best of both worlds.

Not that I think Trump would ever push to ban guns, but he's probably the closest thing to the kind of candidate you describe, as he has a reputation for hardcore conservatism even though he still holds on to many liberal beliefs. But he's also flip-flopped on a lot of things so

Holy shit, when did Hillary become a Lost Causer? Has she always been one and we just didn't notice?

The follow-up story contains a caveat that makes the allegations rather less serious:

"These documents were not marked classified at the time that they were sent," Kirby said. He added that the department was now investigating whether the information in them was classified at the time it passed through her private clintonemail.com email account run on a server in her New York home.

Re: US General Election 2016
Final polls for Iowa from the Des Moines Register, whose pollster Ann Selzer has a very good track record. Keep in mind the margin of error, though.

Re: US General Election 2016
No surprises there. But it looks like whoever we get it will be someone half the country detests. At least Obama had good feelings going into his presidency.

Re: US General Election 2016
I still can't see anyone electable among the republicans, to be honest. (Unless they were running against Sanders, perhaps. (Meaning I guess I'd think Hillary would win by default. (Would still prefer Sanders, though.)))

Re: US General Election 2016
I think that's a fair assessment. Hillary would win largely because the Republicans are such bozos...at least to the sane portion of Americans...which may only be about 40%. Sanders, though being actually only somewhat left of center, would lose because of the perception he's a raging socialist, which he's not. I wish he'd make some more center leaning statements to give him a chance.
So I'd vote for Hillary out of practicality, not preference. I suspect many others will do the same.

Re: US General Election 2016
We might hear results as early as 9 PM Central time (that'd be 3 AM in the UK), but it's likely to take at least another hour or two after that before we can draw any meaningful conclusions.

Re: US General Election 2016
I have a relatively early morning tomorrow so I can't stay up too late, but knowing me it'll be a lot later than 9 or 10.
Re: US General Election 2016
Well I'll be crashing out somewhere between 3am and 4am (got a backshift tomorrow) so might get some idea before I sleep of how things are looking. Are there exit polls?

No exit polls for caucuses. Each precinct reports its results once their caucus has concluded.
