I see, there are a few more scenes in there I guess you have to keep for the same reason (Bilbo hanging off the cliff for example). It works, though, so no biggie really.

{{ Just an update, something I meant to do in my original edits then forgot to do- Ive readjusted the levels in the goblin tunnels and (after a suggestion from Ringo) in Mirkwood to make both darker and a little more destaurated.
As a result I will be removing the current edits that are up and replacing them with the new ones over next day or so.

I think you should change the grass color all through.

I hate uploading to google drive- reupping the final edit of UJ, 3.6 gig and it is telling me its going to take 9hrs 42 mins to do it!!!!! Considering I could download that size of file in about 10-20 mins tops that ridiculous. }}}

{{ Ok news on the edit front. UJ is back up, but Ive taken the decision to spilt the second film in two- it was about 2hrs 30 mins long, which is for me a slightly uncomfortable time to sit and watch a single film. So Ive broken it into two films, restoring it to a trilogy, all be it one with short parts- but this keeps it inline with the sort of lengths of my LotR's edits (where I broke the trilogy back into its original 6 book format).

This means UJ comes in at 1hr 36 minutes. DoS will be roughly 1hr 06 mins and BoFA roughly 1hr 20mins give or take (I dont have times for certain yet as they are still in the editor!).

All comfortable viewing times I feel. Personaly 2 hrs is about my max comfort zone for film length, and that usually feels a bit over long. But for those who enjoy long films they can just watch them all back to back.

For comparison, and as an example of just how much shite was in these films that was utterly unneded and irrelevant to the narrative (and actively detracted from the narrative of Bilbo's tale) heres the running times for the official extended editions I edited the purist edits from-

From the last go round I can say the edited versions are far more enjoyable than the originals!

{{ Thanks Halfy. I personally find the official versions unwatchable, theres 5 hours of material in them I dont believe belong there and have no interest of sitting there enduring. So I really make these for my own pleasure so I have Tolkien based films I can bear to watch.
Weirdest thing about them is I think on balance, as adaptations, the edited Hobbit films are probably better than the edited LotR's. And i would never have believed that if youd asked me upon leaving the cinema after BoFa- at which point Id actually resigned myself to the films being beyond any editing redemption. So  noone was more suprised to find a half-decent book adaptatin was hiding under the crap.

I very much hope youll give these 'definitive' versions of my edits a go at some point. They arent hugely different from previous edits, but where they are its significant. }}

They are designed and edited to be watched in order of the books not order of filming so you can start with TH without fear of it being full of callbacks to LotR's and spoiling all its best moments by making them feel like repetitions by the time you get to LotR's.

It looks like the new Hobbits are still being processed by Google Drive.

I wonder if I could get my cousin and his wife to watch the edited Hobbit movies with me. It sounds really fun, but they might get upset if they see Tauriel missing lol. (Wait, she is absent in this latest version, right?)

Its staggering ! I cant believe its been that long ! I remember when I saw the big film posters that had been glued into bus shelters, "Oh gawd" I thought, "Theyre not doing that old story are they". We had been made to read it at school, that & Ian Serraillier I expected a better version of Bakshi's animation because the story was too big to be one film. I still miss Tom Bombadil, & Crickhollow.

Az- yeah was shocked myself how long its been. What amazes me is how far the technology for the home user has progressed in that time. I started with vide o recorders hooked together and rough cuts that at best were to the second or so of where you wanted them (and often with a big static break) and now I have the sort of editing tools available to me at click of a mouse that 20 years ago would have been thousands of pounds worth of tech only available to high end film and tv productions that lets me edit down to the individual frame. }}

Watched all of them - like the changes, especially the filter in Mirkwood! Did you trim the battle scenes in the last movie too? Felt shorter, but it worked well I thought. Only "criticism" I have is that I liked the two movie solution better. I understand from earlier posts that you prefer shorter movies, and I am the opposite, so it's more an issue of personal preference rather than a criticism to be honest. Anyway, great stuff! Moving on to LotR tonight (EE editions, I'm afraid )

As to two or three films, yeah just personal preference, i found film 2 was a bit overlong, but you want longer just watch 2 and 3 back to back.
