Re: Tales of Home [6]
Last night was the start of the "mother of all storms". It carried on till late afternoon today.
Of course, being an old sage I can remember many storms like this when I was a child. Some of the storms then really did sound like WW3 ! some of the "cracks" made you jump out of your skin
Its still too muggy, & all I wanna do is curl up & nod off. Frightened the fur off the cats this is their 1st storm

Re: Tales of Home [6]
My gran told me that thunder storms was God moving his house around. I never did believe that one But I do find lightning & storms exhilarating Where I live I can go up on an area called "The downs". its a hilly, green land mass of mainly farms but with plenty of public walkways. Its not hard to get up there & really be in a storm Ooooh, Im getting tingles now !

Re: Tales of Home [6]
Beautiful pic there, Az! I wouldn't like to be stuck up on one of the hills when the storms were bad, though.
Re: Tales of Home [6]
Well it was Cowal Games day here again today- sadly I was working- but I did finish my shift at 8pm so I caught the very end of the marchpast (I can hear the fireworks as I type- but on again first thing in the morning so early to bed and a minimum of buckie for me )
This was my route as I turned down the hill on my way home
So I had to shove my way through- I did grab this terrible picture along the way, which I only put up for the rather anomalies establishment in the background with the flags- it was a business started while the US NAVY was still here, and cleverly combined their two favourite eating habits- so one half is the Catalina Italian Restaurant, and the other half is the 51st Bar and Grill- where you can have a steak and a pint. I assume the Canadian flag is just because they always feel left out of these things
I was also momentarily distracted by a gorilla playing bass drum, not everything you see every day, not even in Scotland-
I'll post some vids if anything pops up on youtube later or tomorrow.

That looks like such a great little town! I want to stop by Mac Clure's Bar for a pint.

Re: Tales of Home [6]
Nice little pub, but traditionally a Rangers Bar (ie protestant- thanks to the west of Scotlands sectarian issues)- much less though nowadays- it used to have photos of Rangers players all over the walls for example. Its a rep its never quite shaken off even with new owners now for many years.
But it does have a plaque on the bar and a special stool dedicated to the towns greatest ever drunk Davey Towie- a local legend and missed on today of all days most of all- the games are not the same without Davey at the head of the marchpast clashing together above his head as he danced and capered, his old fashioned metal bin lids, leading the procession through the town in classic drunken Davey style.
And you are most welcome to kip down in my spare room any Games or in fact any time you wish to visit Halfy.

If your going to come all the way to the UK it seems a shame to only see 1 bit of it. Especially if that 1 bit happens to be England

Great pictures, Petty! I second what Halfy says, it seems a really cool town. And as I've mentioned before, any UK trip of mine would have to be long enough to see more than a weekend's worth of stuff, and I'd love to check out Scotland (and get to meet some of our British Forumhobbits).

Winds gusting over 80 mph. Trees down across roads and lines. Power out for 10 miles in every direction. Good times!

Stay safe, Dave!
NB Have the wildfires in the northwest been affecting you? I've been hearing about these a lot this past week though my understanding is that it's been an issue for a while now.

Or after your first buckie experience violently vomit and excrete all over it before picking a fight with your own shadow on the wall, which you will lose, and lose badly. waking up in surrounds of bloody, shitty, vomit covered chaos is a sure sign you were 'totally oot o' it oan the buckie last night'

Thats the spirit and might be better (worse) we could go out and drink (You will however only realise this is in fact what happened when you realise your bedroom now comes with bars)
