Re: Doctor Who [9]
Interesting, but slightly dodgy decision by the BBC in my opinion, for the scheduling of Who.
With the return of Strictly this weekend Who is going to follow it. Which means a start time of 8.30pm, which seems a bit late to me for Who.

I liked Clara with Matt, but I absolutely love her with Peter. I even like Pink (though I'm a tad jealous... ) Yep, love the way she's been dressing, including very much the medieavel dressing up in Robot Hood - fetching it was. I don't there is anything better than a woman dressed with un-overstated elegance Yes, I meant un-overstated, Ms Figg. Understated just doesn't seem to cut it, I'm afraid. Though keeping in my mind that I'm more your rambuctious womanizing type and not some namby pamby romantic who, as a rule, adores classy dresses .

Re: Doctor Who [9]
Thinking back to the ALL 13 scene in DOTD...is this a plot Hole/Paradox?
How could the Doctor receive a new set of regens if they needed '12' to help freeze Gallifrey? How could he and the Curator even turn up if 13 different Doctors were needed to save Gallifrey (unless 12 was just back in quickly to get/replace something on Gallifrey...)How were the regens sent through anyway if Gallifrey was in a timelock?

The Moment. It was the Moment breached the Time Lock to allow 10 and 11 to get through as well.
Knowing a 13th incarnation existed probably made the decision to give him a new cycle a lot easier as to not do so would have therefore have created a paradox.

Timey Wimey, makes my Brainy Painy.
Actually thinking back on that ep does that mean Gallifrey WAS destroyed at least once, i.e before 10 came into existence wouldn't it have had to have been destroyed once before in his past to avoid a circular paradox?

No, this is what always happened.
The Doctor used the Moment, it showed him his future selves and told him the price he would have to pay if he used it- they came up with an alternative.
So it never was destroyed- it was always hidden away.

Re: Doctor Who [9]
Ah Ok...guess I understand why Ecclestone turned it down 'Btw your entire Character arc is totally meaningless...'
Caught up on Pertwee btw, just finished Frontier in Space.
Very enjoyable, and the 'Unit Family' makes for a lot of fun (if predictable) storylines, I like the slightly harder edge his seasons have, and Katy Manning is great (Jo bored me). Great as he is Roger Delgrado turned into a bit of a gimmick by this point...
Pertwee has a great deal of Authority and humour, but honestly I found him a bit bland after Hartnell and Troughton, grounding most of his tenure on Earth made him a bit too straight laced, and 'human' IMO.
Quite surprised by how formulaic The Three Doctors was (a story first and foremost, not a self congratulatory fan service), it wasn't one of the best stories I've seen, and it was a shame Hartnell couldn't participate any more, but great fun none the less, Pertwee and Troughton play off each other very well.
I loved the look at the Brigadier's face when he saw Trougthon again 'Oh No...'

Re: Doctor Who [9]
His arc isnt meaningless- its been a long standing tradition that the Doctor doesnt tend to remember meetings with his other selves, and is made clear that when War turns into 9 he doesnt know what happened beyond he used the Moment, Gallifrey and Daleks gone and he comes too regened in the TARDIS.

Well I'm less impressed now than I was before watching that Time Heist promotional, but then I always find actors and directors trumpeting their own productions to be terribly lame.

Re: Doctor Who [9]
A few brief thoughts on Time Heist.
- Spoilers-Thoughts on Time Heist:
- -Enjoyable enough I suppose, but not very memorable
-Wow, they are definitely going dark with Capaldi, Hartnell your time as the grumpy bugger of Who is at a end...
-Fewer sound issues this time around, I don't know if this is a common complaint, but I'd had a little bit of trouble with muddled dialogue in the last few eps
-Naturalistic performances by the supporting cast
-Perfect length for what it was (make of that what you will)
-Still not sure where they are going with Capaldi-we've had inquisitive, distant and socially awkward, this time we had angry and frankly a little unhinged! I like it! But I don't think wider audinces will...
-Lots of Eyebrow action!
-Thought I watching an Ep of Sherlock in the first five minutes-the cinematography was very similar
-Clever idea to bring in a time loop, but it did feel a little bit like a cop out, to suddenly give a happy ending to the Teller (cool design i.m.o) and came out of knowhere
-Very forgettable storyline, with a time loop and the supporting characters taking so much of the dialogue, frankly I don't think this moved Capaldi's character on any further.
That's not to to say I wouldn't watch it again, whilst I wouldn't give it more than a 5 or 6, I did thoroughly enjoy it (unlike with Smith-whilst I felt many of eps were 'cleverer' and more competently put together, I frankly found his last two seasons boring (from the little I watched anyway).
This is shaping up to be my fave Season since series 4, though I'm not entirely sure if the quality of the writing has grown better or worse...
As for my family emembers watching the ep, they tuned out after five minutes saying it was 'weird, boring and confusing' apparently 'Robots of Sherwood' was their fave ep so far-undemanding family fun, in a show about A Time travelling Alien, they don't want any more complications-entertainment first, thought provoking later.

I'm going to start with Mcgann' stuff (I've already heard a couple, here mostly good things, and it seems to be a bridge between Old and New Who, I haven't really seen much of 4-7 so their's no point starting with them), though the Lost Stories and Companions Chronicles seem intriguing.

- Spoiler:
- I kind of echo what Malick thinks, Time Heist was ok, but the writing and story itself is weak. I think its just another version of Blink and Deep Breath. Only this time instead of not blinking, its not thinking. A bit of a cop out. I am continuing to enjoy Capaldi and Jennas performances, but thats about it. Although the monster thing was an interesting concept, it seemed like an over complicated timey wimey plot overlying a simple rescue. 5/10

Yeah agreed-I can't say it was objectively bad, it just felt kinda unremarkable. What exactly was the point in terms of a character arc? I think a Bank Heist could have been a interesting thing to play around with, but a 45 minute TV slot isn't enough to do anything that interesting, I think this was another ep that could do with another 15 minutes.
I think it's fair to say (for me at least), this was actually a very enjoyable episode, but as with alot of Who eps I personally like, I don't think it did anything that interesting, at the end of the day Who seems more popular as undemanding family fare than hard sci fi, instead of trying to do both, I just wish they could do one better.
Techincally impressive though, and Capaldi is well an truly settled into my top five, Clara and Capaldi are my 2nd fave pairing after Tate/Tennant.

Re: Doctor Who [9]
spot on about undemanding entertaintment, its really gone lite, although the Doctor himself is trying to be darker. odd.
