The king who cared.. about grammar.
(Dillaine is amazing though. He just is Stannis.)

If Stannis the Mannis captures Winterfell, Sansa has a lot of explaining to do.

I think what I didn't like about the second episode was how quickly Arya was let into the house of B&W. I love the stuff with Pod and Brienne, more of that, please.
I hope the plot in Dorne gets good, because the characters there seem kind of dull. "Oh let's walk around and look at stuff in this garden, we're so in love, but will we ever be anything more than tertiary characters?"

Fun to get your perspective. I had a slightly less positive view of the first two episodes. I could link you my reviews, but.. while they're not spoilery, they're pretty negative. So, I can perfectly understand you not wanting to let that cloud your own more positive outlook.

A familiar face is apparently returning.

My commentary:- Spoiler:
- That gives me some hope for Stannis storyline being more nuanced than the most straightfoward formulaic route they could take.

Re: Game of Thrones -- TV ONLY
I'm a bit hesitant, worried, even affraid of seeing yesterdays episode considering the pre-broadcast rumours. (I've managed to avoid post-broadcast spoilers.) But I'm going to give it a go.
Wish me luck.

Re: Game of Thrones -- TV ONLY
Well, I did manage to get caught up to episode 5.
Maybe it's the negativity here, but season 5 seems tired to me now.
So, is this how the books go? What book are they on now?
- Spoiler:
- There were some things I really liked. The stuff with Jorah and Tyrion on the boat. But I didn't like the fight sequence that it turned into. The Bronn and Jaime stuff could be good as they are both likable characters. I don't like the "faith militant" plot. Tommen is an idiot, but maybe that's the point. What did he think was going to happen when a bunch of repressed male teenagers were handed weapons. But it seems like the only reason he cared at all was because Loras was arrested.
I miss Littlefinger and Varys on the small council. At least those scenes used to be fun and sometimes witty. Now it's just dull. And what's with that creepy guy? Is he making a Frankenstein's Monster?
Oh, yeah. So I guess we'll never see Varys again. What the fuck. And why do I have the feeling that none of these threads are going to go anywhere, and by the end they'll just throw everything out and get new plot points, kill off a few characters that people like, and start the same crap over again, just to postpone it longer.
Oh, and that crap with Jorah, "I got bit but I'm not going to tell anyone." Is straight out of The Walking Dead.
And those Sand Snakes make me cringe.

Re: Game of Thrones -- TV ONLY
Books four and five have their issues (the fourth one was such a drop off from the peak of book three that I didn't read the fifth book until three years after it was published), but they're so far ahead of season five that it's not even funny. And they do have a lot of depth that shows through on more careful re-reads.
Anyway, the structure of the story so far is as follows:
Book 1 = Season 1
Book 2 = Season 2 (mostly)
Book 3 = Seasons 3 and 4
Books 4 and 5 = take place concurrently, have been combined for season 5, but the story is moving so far from the books that it's hard to compare the two anymore

Re: Game of Thrones -- TV ONLY
I'm curious for your take on episode six as someone who hasn't read the books, bungo. Blue and I were both pretty disgusted by it but there's always the danger of the echo chamber leading to criticisms getting out of hand. But from where I am right now ... I think it was really bad.
Re: Game of Thrones -- TV ONLY
I'm reading reactions to this episode on another forum and this one person is arguing at length and rather eloquently that the Winterfell plotline in S5 exists to show how Sansa has changed since her time in King's Landing. I'm really trying to be open-minded about this and actually to be honest I could see the writers having intended for the plotline to work this way. But the Sansa marriage plot makes no fucking sense at all ... there's no plausible endgame in it for anyone. And if the preview for next week is any indication, Sansa is still the victim (as if that wasn't fucking obvious enough from this episode). I mean, does anyone doubt that
Other than one-liners like her quip to Myranda in episode six, where is the empowerment Sansa was supposed to have received? She was manipulating Littlefinger at the end of season four, but in this season, she goes along with his Winterfell plan with a minimum of resistance despite the fact that it offers nothing for her. She just buys into his paper-thin justification and keeps going along even after Brienne and the geriatric conspiracy offer her an out. That's something Sansa from S2 would do, sure, but she's supposed to have grown and changed since then.
Edit: and don't forget that Littlefinger definitely didn't know about Ramsay's fucked-up-ness, according to the writer of this episode. Because that makes sense, right? Oh, and you gotta love that
- Spoiler:
- Theon is going to rescue her? They obviously just find-replaced Sansa's name into the Jeyne Poole arc from ADWD. But Sansa and Jeyne are very different characters, including the fact that one is a major POV character in her own right and the other is a minor supporting character who exists to further Theon's story. Forcing Sansa into Jeyne's roll marginalizes her story and rolls back her character development.

- Spoiler:
- Jorah doesn't known that his father was dead, even though every other character gets near-instantaneous updates about major happenings via teleporting ravens, or palantiri, or fucking Westerosi tumblr for all I know.

Well, I watched it.
There were good moments in the previous episodes, like Tyrion seeing the Drogon, Tyrion and Varys traveling in the "box". There were no moments like that in this episode. This episode felt like a chore: wasn't fun to watch, but felt obligated to do it.
- Spoiler:
- Can I first mention the stuff with Jaime and Bronn? What a bunch of morons. "Oh, we'll march into the city and talk with Myrcella right away, and in front of her boyfriend, too! What could go wrong?!" And there's only one word to describe that fight scene: uninspired.
The Cersei/High Sparrow plot is just crap. If Tommen had half a brain he'd have driven them out by now. It's just a bunch of boys with sticks! He's got the whole King's Guard! With the way the season started with the flashback to Cersei's childhood I thought that there would be more moments like that throughout the season, and then she'd get killed off in the last episode. Doesn't look like that's going to happen.
We knew Jorah would end up in the fighting pits when that trailer for season 5 was released. Plus, now we know he's going to die from gray scale. No surprises there.
I don't think Arya knew what she was getting into. She would have to give up everything to become a faceless person. That means her personal vendettas, too. At least that's how I see it. And I totally called it that they were using the faces of the dead people for something.
I honestly don't know what to make of the Sansa plot. If it's trying to make me uncomfortable, it has fully succeeded.
I kind of feel like going on awikioficeandfire and reading all the spoilers. I mean, I don't feel as attached to this as I do to something like The Dark Tower series.

I'm 3 episodes behind. And now I'm dreading what's coming.

Re: Game of Thrones -- TV ONLY
The people on other forums arguing "wait and see how they handle the fallout" reminds me of people saying the same thing after the Cersei/Jaime scene last year. Shame that the writers have given us very little reason to think they're able or interested in depicting that, or that they even realize the scope of their own changes half the time.
Re: Game of Thrones -- TV ONLY
got is boring now... i just see everyone fucking up everything. except Arya, her storyline is awesome. i like Sansa but i feel so bad for her, she always ends up with psycopaths. i'm just waiting for her to take charge of her life and kill off Ramsay.
Re: Game of Thrones -- TV ONLY
I think even book purists would cheer if Sansa kills Ramsey.

Re: Game of Thrones -- TV ONLY
i recommend you all start watching vikings, ok i've only seen that one episode, but it's fjordia and awesome costumes and it seems exiting some historical flaws, but you need some artistic freedom (althoguh it has gotten many aspects correctly) it's an awesome series.
