Actually, I'm pretty sure David and Dan wrote the entirety of Theon's added storyline in season 3. With the castration scene simply added to George's episode. I can't find the reference right now, but it's out there somewhere.
And as far as George's scripts are concerned, the episodes he scripted are normally lauded as the best of the series by book fans. Blackwater and so on.

Re: Game of Thrones -- TV ONLY
It does make more sense that D&D interpolated that scene. I was rather surprised GRRM would have taken it there.
Blackwater was good storywise. But if you look at it and other scripts I remember by him, line by line, they are rather hamhanded. It seems his mind flips when he writes for a script and he becomes less naturalistic. If you remove the Theon story (and perhaps others) then perhaps he does stay closer to the source material than they do.

Re: Game of Thrones -- TV ONLY
Here it is. It was from the commentaries.
http://www.westeros.org/GoT/Episodes/Entry/The_Bear_and_the_Maiden_Fair/Book_Spoilers/#Book_to_ScreenIn the DVD commentary, George R.R. Martin explains that he didn't write any of the scenes with Theon Greyjoy and Ramsay Snow in this episode (in which Ramsay emasculates Theon). The novels didn't state that Ramsay cut off Theon's genitals, though it was vaguely implied that he had.

I think Blackwater might be my favorite episode. The dichotomy between the loud and quiet parts. I'll listen out for the dialogue the next time I watch one of Georges episodes though.

This season will be really interesting. It can be great or a complete failure. (Most likely it will be both.) This trailer gives me hope though.

I think it might be a success with people who only watch the show, and a failure with the people who want to book on screen. That sounds familiar...

Re: Game of Thrones -- TV ONLY
Oh man, that was even better than the first trailer. I am so stoked for this season. Feeling pretty optimistic about it living up to those hopes, too. Don't let me down, D&D.

I dunno man, I think a lot of LOTR movie fans were disappointed by The Hobbit too, if the fall-off in box office after AUJ is any indication.
I try to separate faithfulness as an adaptation from quality as cinema (or television, as the case may be), though. And in this case, the showrunners are being completely open about making changes and aren't claiming to provide the most faithful possible rendition of the books or some such bullshit, so I don't see anything to complain about. I'm glad we're guaranteed to see an ending to this story (the show's version of it), and not in 10-20 years. I'm sure I won't like every creative decision they make, but I don't like all the creative decisions GRRM made either.
Re: Game of Thrones -- TV ONLY
I'm also excited by meaning we now know the wheel metaphor to have. Dany has spent so long in Essos, it'll be nice to see her making strides back towards Westeros (even if they're mainly psychologically preparing herself) again.
- Spoiler:
- I wonder which episode that line is from, though. Dany spends most of ADWD putting her attempts to rule Meereen over her desire to return to Westeros. It looks like they might have her make the opposite decision before Daznak's Pit, though, since it didn't look like she was squatting in a field, shitting, when giving that speech.
Re: Game of Thrones -- TV ONLY
I don't think I have that many trepidations about changes from the book per se. More worries about the original writing, as I feel it has been a bit on and off previously.
A lot of the stuff in that trailer looks really promising though. And some stuff I'm sure will be great. (Jonathan Pryce for instance.) Other parts has potential to be both very good, or end up making little sense...
You can at least not call their adaptation anything but ambitious.

- Spoiler:
- Sansa in Winterfell, for instance, could be both a great move and a comlete failure, I feel.
Either way it will be interesting.

This by the way is not the full trailer. There's about 30 seconds missing.
If you want to see the whole thing do use this link.

The iTunes/FB version also has the advantage of not being recorded with a potato.
Re: Game of Thrones -- TV ONLY
Yeah, there's that to consider.

I've already made that first screenshot of King's Landing my new desktop wallpaper.
Re: Game of Thrones -- TV ONLY
Ah, cool.
What did you think of the SLFiW confirmation? Will cetainly be interesting, but not sure LF is in the moral position to fill the role of Manderly. (I want my "The North Remembers" moment, damn it. )

Re: Game of Thrones -- TV ONLY
I'm really excited about this season... I haven't gotten this far in the books yet so I'm cool with the way the series goes... might change once I get this far in the books but until then I am alright with whatever the show does. This season looks like its gonna be intense though
