Re: Future releases [2]
Man, if Ex Machina is even half as good as its trailer, it'll be one of my favorite movies of next year. Thanks for posting that, Chris!

Well this was (mostly) unexpected and definitely unnecessary! Toy Story 4 is coming...

I think I watched #3, but I don't remember anything if that's the case. Vaguely remember the second one. The first, however, is a fond childhood memory Loved that one, so I'll probably watch the fourth as well, just for fun and perhaps some nostalgia

I'm glad to hear that Miyazaki isn't going to completely retire. Yet another reason to want to visit the Ghibli Museum, too.

These films are simply setting up the current generation for the cute-robotic takeover of the world.Eldorion wrote:

Looks good still.

The Minions aren't robots. They're clearly twinkies that have gained sentience.

Re: Future releases [2]
I'm planning on seeing Interstellar as well but I'm trying to find someone to go with.
Re: Future releases [2]
I'm definitely going to see it. I've read plenty of reviews about it and know what to expect, but I want to see it.

Re: Future releases [2]
Overall I enjoyed the movie. Visuals were fantastic. I was able to follow most of what was going on up until about 2/3 through the movie. There is a scene where three or four of the characters are throwing around scientific space jargon faster than the speed of light, and I wasn't able to catch up. Thank goodness I didn't need to understand it in order to enjoy the finale of the film.
I also really liked the use of organ in the soundtrack. Very reminiscent of Richard Strauss' Also Sprach Zarathustra from 2001 A Space Odyssey.
The pacing is really good up until about 3/4 through, then I started to feel the film's length. Or it may just have been my bladder.
I do want to see it again, preferably on an IMAX screen.

Re: Future releases [2]
Glad to hear that you enjoyed it, bungo. The trailers made it look kinda schmaltzy tbh, but I'm hoping that was just a poor selection of scenes by the marketing team.
Re: Future releases [2]
Well, I'm not sure how you define "schmaltzy," but there are some heavy emotional moments.

Re: Future releases [2]
HitB. Spoilers of course. Jay says that, in comparing this movie to Gravity, Gravity was more "schmaltzy" in its emotional moments, and Interstellar did a better job, but those emotional bits were the weakest moments for him. I liked the emotional moments, they didn't really bother me. When you've traveled to a different galaxy via wormhole, I'd suspect people to fall back on basic emotions of love and longing for their families.

Re: Future releases [2]
Reviews Ive read have been mixed- with the general sentiment being its worth the effort overall but narratively its nowhere near as clever as it would like you to believe it is.
Also slightly concerned the thing I like most about the trailer is the music from V For Vendetta!

Re: Future releases [2]
I liked the emotional bits of Gravity (actually I liked all the bits of Gravity), so I shall add this to my arsenal of reasons for not fully trusting Half in the Bag reviews.
Oh yeah, what about Michael Caine? I know he has this strange accent for the film. Does it work? Or is it slightly bothersome?
