Yes, Hollywood, continue to shit on my childhood. I enjoy it so.

The movie should be in black and white (any kid who has read the book knows this. Oh, but kids won't sit through black and white movies, think of the demographics!). Jeff Bridges, I love you, but you are miscast. You are the Dude, not the Giver.

This looks terrible.

They completely ripped off The Hunger Games movies' furutistic aesthetic, too. I have little doubt that there will be other "borrowings" from THG since The Giver is not at all blockbuster material.

Not sure what you mean, Eldo. HG is hardly the first work to depict a dystopian society in the future. It's not even the first to depict children battling to the death in a tournament.

I know (I love Battle Royale), but when I mentioned the aesthetic I was referring to visual design.  The guards and their uniforms, the hover ships, etc.  Granted, it's been a long time since I've read The Giver, but the movie looks very much like THG looked and very little like the way I imagined the book.

Interesting. Could be the same production company is involved or the same people who worked on HG. Or could be the obvious, of course; i.e. they want to duplicate the success of HG but duplicating its look.

That's sort of what I assumed. Shrugging Though like I said, it's been ages since I've read The Giver, so my memories of it are a bit foggy.

The point of The Giver isn't really the futurist elements, is it?
From what I remember reading the book several years ago, attempting a "Hunger Games" look, or feel, would be a disservice to the source.
And yeah, spot on with that criticism. Jeff Bridges, What the fuck man?!

Taken from bluemoon forum.

I will have to go and see this new Russell Crowe and Ray Winstone film, its got the religious nutters foaming at the mouth for some reason, in America the Christian fundamentalists have come out and said that anyone in Christendom who enjoys or supports this film should be burnt at the stake

Its now been banned in various Muslim countries, Indonesia, Quatar, Bahrain and U.A.E. have all forbidden it to be shown

If it's causing a stink like this it must be worth seeing just to find out what all the outrage is about, apparently the word God is not mentioned in the film once

From what I've read Aronofsky has done to the Bible what Peter Jackson is doing to the Hobbit.  Razz

So maybe one should accept some reactions.

That's what I was thinking, but I hold The Hobbit in higher regard as a piece of literature. Razz

Hey, I'm actually looking forward to 22 Jump Street and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.  Both of their predecessors were far, far better than they had any right to be (since they were remakes of long-dead properties).  I actually enjoyed both quite a bit. especially Jump Street. Smile

But yeah, it's hard not to be disheartened when it's looking like The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be the biggest movie of the summer. :/

It's funny, I had my suspicions that those Bible movies were cash grabs. Turns out my suspicions were well founded. Will not be supporting that.
