Well you better wipe out Shakespeare in that case, & "waggle-dagger" is looked upon as quintessentially English to the bone. Ive heard there is a theory Willy boy MIGHT have been an Italian immigrant. How sayeth you now Groves ?

Grove is off his rocker- he has this vision of some idealist teaching of the 1900's which never existed in the first place.

Thank God he has no jurisdiction into Scottish Education.

According to the Guido Parliamentary blog a popular joke doing the rounds in the Ministry of Defence right now is-

we now have what we didn’t have in 2003: a valid reason to invade Iraq.

Its funny but frightening because it might also be true.

I was reading The Sunday Times magazine & there were some photo's of servicemen & women who had gone to fight in Afghanistan & Iraq. All have been killed doing their duty. The pics were in black & white & the rooms they lived in were kept untouched, like a shrine to their memory. I found it very sad. Under the pics of the rooms these people once loved & laughed in was their name etc. didnt need an explanation. words were not needed here. Seven rooms, seven lives. How many more empty rooms around the world.

(CNN) -- A Sudanese woman who had been sentenced to death because she declined to renounce her Christian faith has been freed, her lawyer said Monday.

Meriam Yehya Ibrahim, 27, reunited with her husband after getting out of custody, said her lawyer, Mohaned Mustafa El-Nour. An appeals court found that an initial judgment against her was faulty, he said.
He declined to elaborate.

Ibrahim gave birth to a girl in a prison in the capital of Sudan last month, two weeks after she was sentenced to 100 lashes and to die by hanging.

Her sentence had drawn international condemnation.

This is good news. Now if we can just get Egypt to release the reporters it jailed on terrorism charges just for talking to the Muslim Brotherhood the world will be a much better place.

the teaching and promotion of creationism has been banned by UK Gvt from all UK public and free schools. thats got to be a very sensible move.

''Secular groups in the U.K. are rejoicing after the government clarified that creationism, supported by biblical literalists, is not allowed to be taught as a scientifically valid theory at academies and public-funded schools.

The Department of Education's funding agreement, under the "Church of England and Catholic single academy model supplemental agreement" document published earlier in June, states that creationism "does not accord with the scientific consensus or the very large body of established scientific evidence; nor does it accurately and consistently employ the scientific method, and as such it should not be presented to pupils at the Academy as a scientific theory."
The statement adds: "The requirement on every academy and free school to provide a broad and balanced curriculum in any case prevents the teaching of creationism as evidence based theory in any academy or free school."

The British Humanist Association said on Wednesday that it is welcoming the news, with Head of Public Affairs Pavan Dhaliwal remarking that the document complies with the group's initiative to have schools teach evolution, and not creationism.

"Now the Government has extended such an explicit rule to all new Academies and Free Schools and made it clear that it believes that existing rules mean that no Academy or Free School can teach pseudoscience," Dhaliwal said

Never will happen here.  Rolling Eyes  Though fortunately the science teachers usually push back against proposed laws that creationism and evolution get equal time.

On a totally different note, 281 child trafficking pimps were arrest in a country-wide sting today, but only 168 children were rescued.  Something seems wrong, you'd think the numbers would be reversed.  Hopefully they arrested anyone even distantly connected.  Still, the numbers are shocking to me.  This is the kind of thing you expect in places like Thailand; I wasn't expecting this in my country!  Shocked

Agreed. But, shamefully, much of the big money that fuels the Thai sex industry comes from North America and Europe, so it's probably not too surprising to find the cancer at home.

I found this by accident whilst looking up some Sex Pistols interview on Youtube- John Lydon (Johnny Rotten) talking about Jimmy Saville.
For those outside the UK Jimmy Saville was a huge star in the UK during the 70's and 80's- he was a DJ, presented the BBC flagship music program Top of he Pops and had his own show Jim'll Fix It.
Since his death it has been revealed however he was the worst sort of serial sex offender- not just children of both sexes, and children in hospitals where his supposed 'charity work' gave him complete access but it appears even bodies in hospital morgues were not safe from him.

There has been much scandal around who knew what  and when and how he got away with so many despicable offences for so long.
This interview with Lydon is from 1978- (jump to 50 seconds for the relevant bit)

The BBC never broadcast the interview.

I never liked Saville, I felt a icky sicky vibe from that 'thing'. I just couldnt see what was so appealing about him ? But I did feel something was odd or not right about him  Suspect It is said the way to get away with murder is do it right in front of you, The last place you'll look is when its under your nose. He must have felt so brave, so confident, so immortal, getting away with the groping, the touching & the "other" stuff ! YUK!

The amazing thing is he did it right in front of all of us on live TV-

The blonde girl he is molesting on national tv was in the documentary saying he just stuck his hand up her skirt and starting groping her and she had nowhere to go and was embarrassed to do anything- she complained afterwards to the floor manager and he told her "That's just Jimmy."
And there was a vid I saw on facebook, but cant find on youtube, from Jim'll fix it where he is reading out a letter from a ten year boy, makes a very inappropriate comment and then rounds it off by adding "and if you have a little sister she'll get some Jimmy too.'

I think you are right Azriel, he was so blatant about it people seemed just not to see it.

Yeah, & it was also in those days when women werent thought of very much, not respected at all. How many times have I heard the same old phrase....she asked for it...she got what she asked for....etc. Women were seen as shag machines & if you didnt put out you were called all the names going, in fact, you were more or less emotionally bullied into unwanted sex, cos after all, thats all a womans for ?
Now, if a man stepped forward & said Saville mucked about ? but that wouldnt be possible, you would then be classed as a "poof" or queer, men wouldnt want to wreck their image as 'Macho', not with all that 'Old Spice' & 'Brut' flying around

I listened to the Johnny Rotten interview a couple of days ago when Petty first posted it, but I'm still not sure what to say about it. I didn't follow the Saville thing closely when the news was coming out, I just kept hearing bits and pieces of pedophilia-related news from the UK and it took me a while to piece together a picture of what was happening from the news sources I could find. It was already appalling to hear about the BBC's handling of everything, but that interview just makes me wonder how widely known it was. And what else might be widely known in certain circles where anyone who tries to comment is shut down with threats of libel.

I am sure they all knew he was 'at it' with young girls but there was a culture of boorishness in the 70s not only in tv. Some were probably afraid to loose their jobs and Others were just happy to turn the other way because these big stars were important and threw their weight around. I dont think anyone knew about the hospital stuff though. thats horrific.

You have to start wondering if there is not something very dark festering at the heart of our establishment in the UK.

Thats Rolf going down for 12 counts of child abuse.

And now this-

'The Home Office is facing calls to explain why a 1980s dossier about alleged paedophiles at Westminster was lost or destroyed by officials.'- BBC

Even more suspicious the current government carried out a review into this but only published summaries of the contents, they are refusing to publish the whole document-

'Downing Street rejected calls to publish the review in full. The prime minister's official spokesman said: "The executive summaries fully reflect the work that was done."'

That's civil service speak- it reflects 'the work that was done', not you will note an admission that it reflects the contents, or the conclusions drawn. Which it clearly doesn't or the civil servant would not have had to word the statement in this way.

The original investigation into paedophile at Westminster came about because of a Conservative MP, Geoffrey Dickens.

"According to press reports at the time, he handed two dossiers to the Home Office in 1983-84. One of them, he reportedly said, concerned a civil servant and another one related to an employee of Buckingham Palace. They also contained allegations concerning the Paedophile Information Exchange, a group that campaigned to make sex between adults and children legal.

But in an interview with the Daily Express in August 1983 he also said he would expose eight prominent figures if the home secretary failed to act. He told the paper: "I've got eight names of big people, really important names, public figures. And I am going to expose them in Parliament."- BBC

He never did expose them, and the Home Secretary never did act on the dossiers either- apparently instead the report that was done as a response to the dossiers has been 'lost'.

Also not the first time the Palace has cropped up in connection to these people, that's a mention here and Rolf and in particular Saville, had ties to individuals in the Royal family. Close ties in Savilles case.

And deeper we do go.

The son of the MP who compiled the dossier on the child abusers in power in the 80's has spoken to the BBC-

'Geoffrey Dickens, who died in 1995, said it would "blow the lid off" the lives of powerful and famous child abusers, his son has told the BBC.
"My father thought that the dossier at the time was the most powerful thing that had ever been produced, with the names that were involved and the power that they had."
"it was talked about in the family, discussions now and then, sort of 'Wait and see what happens - this is going to blow everything apart."

Around the time that the dossier was handed in, Mr Dickens said the MP's London flat and his constituency home were both broken into and ransacked within the same week, but that "nothing was taken".
"They weren't burglaries," he added. "They were break-ins for a reason. We can only presume they were after something that dad had that they wanted."- BBC

It all get murkier and more suspicious sounding by the day. What has been going on in the heart of our democracy and who knew about it?

What has been going on is the same old cover ups & corruption. Corruption is often very financially lucrative, no one wants the cash cow to come to an end. If your the one caught up in this & youve gotten used to a very 'charmed' lifestyle thankyou very much, not only do you want it to continue but, there is now the fear of being caught out, highlighted, shamed. Lives ruined (oh dear what a shame  Rolling Eyes ) & Im not talking victims. No, they are the fodder providing the dosh, the lifestyle of the rich & famous ! You cant even trust our head of society...The so called Royal family ! ha !
