THanks Norc.

Moffat- He’s into it – it’s just “Can you make it work?” I think he would also like us to go and make it in New Zealand! And I’m like “Okaaay… I’d rather we just flew you to Cardiff!

Read -'where I can stand behind you and remind you who the boss on this one is!'

Damn right Moffat- PJ can direct and shoot with a camera like no ones business, but don't let him and missus write any of the damn thing for pity's sake!"

I really am in two minds about PJ and Who.

Hugely sceptical that it would be a good thing, but, he is a life long Whovian, the man bought the 7th Doctors costume, he owns Daleks and a Cyberman.
And if he is such a huge Whovian and he is very wealthy and he does have his own production company, he might just tempt the BBC to give him an episode in NZ if he cuts a deal on facilities ect and pays some of it out his own money (through use of his companies without charge).

Such a tempting offer might even make the BBC consider letting him have a hand in the episode itself, not just direct it.

And strangely enough I am even in two minds about that.  Shocked

I have always said PJ's main problem making Tolkien into film is he doesnt really like Tolkien. Not for its own sake, not for the writing, not for the characters, not for the use of language, not for Tolkiens themes.
But they did let him do a ton of stuff he does like, such as big battles, lots of action , huge vistas, and to play with miniatures and cgi and prosthetics and push the boundaries of them, I can see what appealed to him about them, its just it wasn't Tolkien.

But he seems to genuinely love Who, and from classic right through, so he gets it, he understands it, he has a life time of watching it develop and imagining what he might do if he got to make Doctor Who.

Now granted he'd probably still have to be bigger than ever before, and there is a good chance if it has Daleks in it there will have to be a billion of them in billions of Dalek saucers, or one ginanoromous huge planet sized one.

But just maybe, he might get it right.

I'm not 100% sure but I think on IMDb credits for 'written by' mean his concept and he wrote the story, but not necessarily the screenplay.
And 'screenplay by' means he had some part only in the scripting, not the concept.

But Im not certain on that.

I think its a great idea to let PJ go for it, maybe use WETA to good use this time. I think Moffat may have to suck it up and go to NZ, the BBC bosses will no doubt decide.

I wouldn't like to see it just handed over to him to do what he wants with or we might get an episode with a 20 minute sequence where the Doctor is swept down a river of lava on a tea tray fighting Daeks and Cybermen in increasingly ludicrous ways!  Mad

Imagine the production values if Jackson pours some of his own money and the people who work with him in NZ into the project!
Of course, it wouldn't matter how high quality the CGI in something like "Dinosaurs in Space" were: the episode would still be quite poor.

I like Dinosaurs! Its a romp. And Rory's dad is excellent in it and the episode seems to be a fan favourite for the 12 and under portion of the audience.

BBC are testing the cash cow potential of Who again -

'BBC Worldwide has announced that the first episode of Doctor Who Series 8 - Deep Breath - will be screened in cinemas around the world from 23 August 2014.
The feature-length premiere episode of Series 8, starring new Doctor Peter Capaldi, is directed by acclaimed Director Ben Wheatley (Sightseers, A Field in England) and written by Lead Writer and Executive Producer Steven Moffat.'- Gallifrey Base

Maybe I'm reading too much into the quote, but Steven Moffat seems a little unhappy about the apparent inevitability of a Peter Jackson-directed episode of Doctor Who.  Makes me wonder who's pulling strings to make this happen.  My guess would be higher-ups at the BBC who want the publicity.

I think it will probably happen at some point. I mean, he can do what the hell he likes – he owns New Zealand! I think he’s sincere in his ‘Doctor Who’  fandom, to say the least.  He’s a nice guy, he quite often drops me a line after a show goes out. He’s into it – it’s just “Can you make it work?” I think he would also like us to go and make it in New Zealand! And I’m like “Okaaay… I’d rather we just flew you to Cardiff!

Post by Norc Sat Jul 26, 2014 12:55 pm

yeah, i don't think Moffat really wants PJ to have anything to do with Doctor Who, but then again he probably now has to Rolling Eyes this could either go very badly or it could work Shrugging the point i was trying to make earlier is that the only, really "success" (not really, but at least the attempts at a box office success) is based on other peoples work, eg. LOTR, The Hobbit, King Kong, Tin Tin. What really seems to what he is good at, are sort of remakes of other stuff. now he probably has stuff he has co-written/co-produced or even written it all by himself. But when one work as a team, or is listed as such, what one actually has contributed to the screenplay/story/plot/dialogue, might not be all that much. anyway, what i am worried about, basically, is the story being shit and the effects being amazing, and that to me is an opportunity being missed...

Did a bit of digging around and as far as I can tell the only one of his films PJ has written on his own was the first one- Bad Taste.

Meet the Feebles had four co-writers with PJ being one of them, and from The Frighteners on he has co-written with Fran Walsh and then Boyens joined the writing team.
