Re: Doctor Who [8]
I think the BBC for once did a decent go of marketing Who in the anniversary year- putting it to the cinemas ect- but they seemed to be more interested in marketing it than in making it at times- at least as far as the cash goes- they made a mint on the 50th ep, even discounting tv for the period it was in the cinema it took more than the Hunger Games in the US.
Yet they still skimped on the actual budget for the episode, just not the marketing.

Re: Doctor Who [8]
I can't really get over Night of the Doctor. McGann is so good.
Really a big shame he was never given a proper go to play the part. He would of course have had to work with the same writing and directing as everyone else, but that video shows off the fact that he would have been excellent.

Re: Doctor Who [8]
Yeah, I haven't really gotten around to those.
It's just when you see him with that production and everything, being that good. You really wish he would have gotten a proper go.
Not that I'm wishing the Americans would have picked up the series. Far from it. If anything he's probably more suited for the role now than then.
It's just with that sort of performance I find myself thinking he might have been preferable to some of the Doctors we've had in the new series. And maybe I'd rather have him take over now than Cipaldi..
It might be a bit unfair to the others to judge him so favourably over such short a skit though.

Nice Smith era tribute-
Karen Gillan has said in an interview that Moffat wrote her appearence into the final episode for Matt, so he would have her there for his final scene- rather sweet.

Re: Doctor Who [8]
RIP Christopher Barry. One of Who's most influential directors.
He directed the first ever Dalek story.
He was in the chair to direct the Rescue- the first introduction of a new companion and also directed the Romans which followed that story.
He then directed the Savages, and was back in the chair for Power of the Daleks- the 2nd Doctors introduction story.
He was back for 3rd Doctor story The Daemons, a fan favourite and the Mutants in the same era.
He was in the hot seat again for Robot- the 4th Doctors first story and directed yet another classic, The Brain of Morbeus in the 4th Doctor era.
The final Who he directed was The Creature From the Pit in 1979.

Well, I didn't have 50 minutes to spare. But I saw a bit of it and quite enjoyed it. McCoy really shines.
And I'm guessing you enjoyed the part about the amount of Scots in the Tardis.
If anything, if Scotland votes yes to independence, maybe Doctor Who should go with BBC Scotland.

McCoy made me laugh when he talks about his football team- "Dunoon Athletic, or Dunoon Pathetic as we called them"- thats my home town (he's from same place as me- and they are still pathetic! ). And when he mentions Radaghast, "with poo down my face- it was a shitty job but someone had to do it"

Re: Doctor Who [8]
Also interesting in that vid Karen directly address the sexist charge thrown at Moffat- saying she just doesnt understand it and that she felt Amy was a fully rounded, layered and complex character- and the skirts were her choice and had nothing to do with Moffat.

As for the panel, Petty. Yes, I quite enjoyed it. They are an unusual paring, but work quite well together.

Re: Doctor Who [8]
'Big Finish have announced a new set of adventures featuring Tom Baker as the fourth Doctor with Louise Jameson as Leela, written by the pair's original producer Philip Hinchcliffe alongside Ghost Light writer Marc Platt.
Former Doctor Who producer Philip Hinchcliffe has been reunited with his stars, Tom Baker and Louise Jameson, for ten brand new episodes of Doctor Who made for audio at Big Finish.
Doctor Who: Philip Hinchcliffe Presents will consist of two epic full-cast stories, filled with all the drama and chills that marked Hinchcliffe’s era of the TV show.
The Ghosts of Gralstead is a six-part adventure, and it finds the Doctor and Leela returning to Victorian London, in the year 1860:
At St Clarence’s Hospital, respected surgeon Sir Edward Scrivener requires the bodies of the dead… At Doctor McDivett’s Exhibition of Living Wonders and Curiosities, miracles are afoot… And in Gralstead House, the ghost will walk again. Mordrega has come to Earth...
Carolyn Seymour – who is known for Quantum Leap, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Voyager and, notably, for playing Abby Grant in the original Survivors – plays Mordrega. Sir Edward is played by Gethin Anthony (Game of Thrones).
The second, four-part adventure is called The Devil’s Armada:
The TARDIS materialise in Sissenden Village in the sixteenth century. Catholic priests are hunted, so-called witches are drowned in the ducking stool, and in the shadows the Vituperon are watching… and waiting...
Doctor Who: Philip Hinchcliffe Presents also includes a special hour-long documentary featuring interviews with Tom, Louise, Philip and the cast, and is released in September.'- Gallifrey Base

Re: Doctor Who [8]
Yes, I saw that a good while ago. Not in any such detail though. It certainly sounds very interesting. Particularily as Philip Hinchcliffe is involved.
The sad thing is Tom was supposed to be doing stories for Big Finish with both Elisabeth Sladen and Mary Tamm as well. Which for obvious reasons never happened.

Re: Doctor Who [8]
All three so suddenly too. Yeah, as you say. A shame.
Did you say you just watched through the Tom Baker years? I would be interested to hear which episodes you felt stood out.
I've been through all but the last two by now, I think.
