Re: Doctor Who [8]
No i am not saying that- it only occurred to me because you mentioned that lass in the vid needed a punch.
And that got me looking up the leele scene, and that got me talking with a friend who was with me at the time about how it is odd women still slap men in Who but its no longer allowed to happen the other way round any more.
I then pointed out there are some mens groups who deal with abused men who would probably say its just as bad.
You seemed to be saying earlier because of the difference in upper body strength it was ok for a woman to be seen hitting a man.

Re: Doctor Who [8]
Its odd because surely violence against women is not better or worse than violence against men? If its wrong one way should it not be wrong the other way too?
And s there not a risk that a young woman might think it acceptable that a woman hit a man, because if thatwere to happen to there are men out there who went struck, strike back, regardless of the gender of who hit them. So is it not also a bit of a risky message to send out?

Re: Doctor Who [8]
Is violence against women worse than violence against men? Well, it's an interesting question.
The law certainly doesn't seperate the illegality with regard to gender
Ethically I think we have a tendency to do so, though I'm not sure for good reason. We tend to have a view that that any violence against women is worse because they can't defend themselves. In reality I think one could say, in most cases, the same is true about violence against men. Still that view has led to several forms of abusive behaviour in relationships to be illegalized where it might not exceed the strict legal definition of violence. And for good reason.
Still the law doesn't seperate with regard to gender and the same behaviour would be illegal for a woman to do, though perphaps it would to less extent be brought to the attention of the police and the courts.
As for Leelas slap I think it might have constituted an example of how someone from a culture where one would not settle arguments with words would act in a situation where someone else was being silly for completely arbitrary and societal reasons.
Generally I think I have a problem with violence against anyone for any other reason than to stop them being violent to someone else. And even then there has to be a necessity with regards to time.
That turned out a lot longer than I intended, but hopefully you'll find it somewhat interesting.

Haha, well. I wasn't complaining really.
Oh. I actually saw that and was going to respond to it, it just got lost somewhere along the way.
I'd say you were pretty much spot on. The lack of character development in the Hobbit movies and the botching up of it when there is some plays a large part in what drags them down as movies.

Still, thank you for helping the off topic conversation onto a new page at least Petty.

Though I like the concept.
"Flash norcing": When you step away from your thread for five minutes and return to find it filled with Cumberbatch pictures or the equivalent.
