Did they use that in Shrek?   

It's meant to show that the character Peer, like the onion, has no core.

I like the way Peer Gynt parodies Norwegian meeting the world and how surprisingly relevant it seems today.

Ah, that has me wondering if Ogres have cores now.   Probably.

It's certainly strange to see how much of that Norwegian naivety and feeling of being world champions still survive today. Though how much of that is the oil, I don't know.

I would say there's something there though. I wouldn't call it arrogance, more a naive self satisfaction perhaps. Which you can see when Norwegian politicians go abroad for instance.

You should try to read it. It's a lot of fun and quite preposterous in parts. And all in rhyme. Brand is good too, but a lot more serious and fatalistic.

just want to mention that the new series on NRK1 "Yttersia" (the "outer side") is more or less where i live it tells the store of the fishermen who lives there and difficulties and some of them talk really "broad" and i just love that

Weird watching that- there is a Scottish version of the same show- its exactly the same but with Scottish accents and on the opposite side of the same bit of sea!   

yeah it is also kinda funny that one of the dialects has totally dropped the rolling Rs halfy would be appalled

Oh, I just saw that on television.  

I thought for a second you were saying they would sound a bit like people from Bergen when you said they didn't roll their r's, but of course they just sound like people from where they're from who don't roll they're r's.

And quite broad dialects, yes. I liked that too.

Foreigners in Kaffistova (  ): In 2011 the TV channel NRK showed the entire voyage of a Hurtigruten ship going from Bergen to Kirkenes. The show lasted 6 days or something. Utterly ridiculous, and just as fascinating The vid in the link is a spoof on this

What was the last thing they did with that concept? Didn't they do dog birth (minutt for minutt)?

I've not seen that one (thank Eru!), but there was one on a few days ago, "Skreifiske: Torsk for Torsk" or something like that. It was fun the first couple of times, but this is streching it..

I'm not sure Knut Hamsun would use a word like batshit.   Though come to think of it, why not?

The second one is pretty spot on, I think.

And I tend to think of it as a positive thing to say.

I've only read "Markens Grøde" (The Growth of the Soil. I wonder why I haven't read more books by Hamsun, because I loved Markens Grøde Isak Sellanraa might very well have been Bear Grylls' great grand-father or something

He's certainly a remarkable character and author.   

I always wanted to read Paa gjenngrodde stier, which was the book he worte after the Norwegian governement tried to have him institutionalized for dementia. And got a medical report that described him as having «varig svekkede sjelsevner.»
