Re: The YouTube thread
Yeah, I liked that one too.
When I was a kid I'd sometimes get to pet the Budweiser Clydesdales at the State Fair.
They're big, beautiful, gentle giants, and I'll always feel they're my personal friends.

Re: The YouTube thread
That is so strong, emotionally,David. They are such noble creatures. We should make more use of them than we do. And I DONT mean grind them into the dirt, making them burst an artery racing 4 miles round a track so silly sods can win a bet !

Re: The YouTube thread
I hate "The National", I think its cruel, demanding & unnecessary ! Horses in the wild dont go thru shit like The national ! & after the poor beast has run its guts out, the F*****G jockeys feel the desire to get the whip going ! Run it yourself if you think its easy ! Give the horse a rest !

Re: The YouTube thread
I think they should at least have them chased by wolves.
You see I reckon if you are hitting a horse to make it go fast and do something it probably doesnt want to be doing, then its bound to resent that a bit.
It probably would rather be doing what everything else would like to be doing, which is be safe, eat, sleep and shag. Those are the basic needs of life.
Not to be driven round a dangerous track you might die on at speeds you'd rather not be runnng at whilst a slightly evolved but unusually small monkey hits you with a stingy length of flailed cow skin.
Its bound to make a horse a bit crabbit and therefore likely to not really be giving everything its got. So is not really a fair way to decide which horse is fastest, not if Im going to lose £10 on the outcome.
So you have them chased by wolves; if you think a pack of wolfs might catch you and eat you alive you are really going to try.
And you can make loads of burgers to sell in supermarkets later.

Re: The YouTube thread
I don't care for the racing because the money often comes before the welfare of the animals, especially at the lower levels.
But to be fair, there's only one thing a young stallion loves more than running as fast as he possibly can, especially if there are other horses to run with.
And that one thing is NOT eating!

Re: The YouTube thread
Yeah, I know. It's not right.
My only point was that you don't have to force a horse to do these things that aren't good for them. If the thought of refusing a jump is even crosses their mind, no amount of whipping will make them clear the jump. That doesn't mean it's not abusive.
It's just that it's the same kind of abuse as we do to teenage athletes who go into pro sports. Overtraining, competing with injuries, etc. It's not good for them. Sometimes it kills them. But they're willing participants. Testosterone and self-destruction often go hand-in-hand.
