No, but the funny seems to be lost on my students! Showed them the opinion polls clip as a way to discuss scientific reporting, they didn't get it! Rolling Eyes

Now my faith in the youth begins to crumble again. I swear it wasn't for the evidence of those who post on here I may well have succumbed to the belief all is lost! Not getting Yes, Minister. I, I'm horrified and cold inside.

Fortunately I watched a Spike Milligan tribute earlier, made shortly after he died and that has put me in great mood. Unlike some other so-called anti-establishment heroes of my youth (not looking at any particular punks here) he never did stop doing his bit. Here he is in a classic moment in booth British comedy and probably history, collecting his Lifetime Achievement award for comedy not long before he died.

The first time I had ever heard of Spike Milligan was when my Mum's copy of Silly Verse for Kids was laying about my house. It's amazing-I have't read it in ages- but I still remember so much, a sign of how great some of that rhyming was.

My personal favourite was:

A thousand hairy savages sitting down to lunch.
Gobble Gobble glup glup.
Munch, Munch, Munch!

I always liked this one;

A Silly Poem

Said Hamlet to Ophelia,
I'll draw a sketch of thee,
What kind of pencil shall I use?
2B or not 2B?

This isn't by Spike Milligan, but it amuses me.

The Things Mums say....

Wake up!
Get up!
Out of bed!
Mind your feet!
Mind your head!
Don't run around!
Don't be late!
Look at your bedroom!
What a state!
Put your stuff away now please!
Why can i never find my keys?
Close your mouth and eat your food!
Look at that!
Don't stare it's rude!
Elbows OFF the table please!
Money doesn't grow on trees.
I won't tell you again...
Did you hear what i said?
I won't tell you again
It's time for bed.

Another Milligan one I think, that I always liked:

Cried the soldier of the army
'I think this was is barmy'
so he threw away his gun,
Now he's having much more fun!

Also I've been listening to a bit of Bo Hansson tonight, this is possibly my favourite track on his Inspired by Lord of the Rings album.

Me da nd bruders work in horse training and breeding, although we travel, we have lots of invitations as people want our skills to sort out der lack of competance wit der own horses. Seen most of Ireland and a little of England and Scotland. We never stole a ting although people labled us. Dats d main reason we only go to places we r invited to.

My brother convinced me to listen to that a week after it hit the blogosphere and I still don't entirely forgive him. Razz

I prefer the Casey Heynes / Zangief Kid meme. Just beware that it shows bullying and assault (until the TWIST), so some people might not want to watch it. Wink Link.

"Imagine every Beatles song ever recorded morphed into one legendary song"- Squach

Um, how can I put this Squach- you need to listen to more Beatles! Unless you mean that morphing all the Beatles songs into one song would sound awful- in which case I agree fully with the comparison. But I'm afraid that song is fine if your 12, maybe. Sorry, but you can't expect less than a crabbit response from me, you've taken the Beatles name in vain! (And made me watch an uncomfortable video with a young girl dressed up as a maid! Shocked )
