The obvious plainly told? I was referring to you giving me a little lecture. You thought I had little (or no) understanding of the girl's songs! ME! Condescending? Am I such an unfeeling boob? (ME! Why, the girls at school knew me as "Mr Touchy Feely." I was always reaching out to them).

I think two things (basically) have happened here, Amarie: 1) You are are fond of and touched by this lass and her songs, and fair enough, so - perhaps only at the moment you read my first response - you took it all personally. (I do the same when Odo criticizes Petty - I see it as my job!) (2) I concede my second response was ambiguous to say the least - so I ask your forgiveness on that. My intent and what I accomplished are poles apart!

I stand by my dislike of the word "masculine" Amarie. But it's my "opinion", I was not suggesting it is an "objective" fact. The "lullaby" bit (the chorus), seemed twee when juxtaposed with the verses. The verses seemed fine until they were made pretentious by the chorus (just my opinion).

But as Orwell the Peaceable* (and Understanding), I will revisit the songs and give them another heartfelt listen and see if my views change at all. Can't be fairer than that. Very Happy

Judging you? People who make comments get comments in return as far as I'm concerned. "Judging" someone and "questioning/disputing" someones ideas is not "judging"- not where I come from. With me it's a gesture of respect between equals (mostly). I would not judge anyone on a couple of songs they like. Even if they're from Dark Planet - which is a place most worthy of Judgement! I felt you you were basicly calling me simple minded and plain, and that made me see red. *Pets the Drama Llama* I probably should have let it sit for a bit longer before replying though. Oh well, what's done is done and what's eaten is eaten as the fox said. A few gnarls and growls later and we're friends again (I hope). Better to get the trolls out in the light right away and see that they are really just pebbles, rather than keep them in the dark and let them grow. I wouldn't have posted if I didn't think you were man enough to handle it.

I am mostly taken by Maria's voice and the air of her music. She came to mind since we talked about Lana's voice, though of course very different. Her lyrics aren't the typical pop lyrics so all in all she stands out in the crowd. This is to me far more interesting that let say Rihanna, who is just a voice and a face (well, body). Mostly Maria's lyrics makes me glad I am not that messed up emotionally and I hope I will never bring so much pain to my kids as her mother has caused her.

(Haha! And who else starts to sing on the radio now other than Maria Mena and Homeless? I think that song in the future will have me thinking of this thread and make me laugh. Laughing

)
