[Sam is cooking rabbits that Gollum caught]
Sméagol: What's it doing?! Stupid, fat hobbit! You ruins it!
Samwise Gamgee: What's to ruin? There's hardly any meat on them. What we need is a few good taters.
Sméagol: What's "taters", precious? What's "taters", eh?
Samwise Gamgee: Po-ta-toes! Boil em, mash em, stick 'em in a stew. Lovely big golden chips with a nice piece of fried fish. [Sméagol spits in disgust] Even you couldn't say no to that.
Sméagol: Oh yes, we could! Spoiling nice fish! Give it to us raw, and wriggling! You keep nasty chips!
Samwise Gamgee: You're hopeless.

No, but seriously, I know that's not making a good case, sushi is amazing. Nod

If Norway introduced Japan to eating sushi without the seaweed ruining it (which IMHO it does) then kudos.

It's not the fish that tastes fishy, it's the dratted seaweed.

Sushi is great. bounce I quite like the maki, the stuff wrapped in seaweed. But, hey, to each his own. There's alway nigiri too. Very Happy

Tempura is Japaneese cooking too, Petty. It basically means deep frying things after dipping them in a traditional Japaneese batter. I'd have thought that would be right up your street.

In tempura maki you even have deep fried sushi.  Very Happy

I had no idea fried sushi was even a thing?

I don't eat sushi very much, but it's good.  I'm not a big fish person in general (except fish and chips) so it's always kinda weird to me.  I did have some while on vacation a few months ago; we stumbled across this pretty good Japanese restaurant in Williamsburg, VA.

I think sushi is one of my favourite ways to eat fish. That and smoked salmon. CUISINE - Page 10 Drool

Other ways to prepare fish can be great I think, but it has to be done well. If not it can be actively boring, or even properly bad.

I usually just cook fish fillets in a pan with butter and lemon slices on top. Shrugging
Smoked salmon can be pretty good though. A bit strong sometimes, but I can see you Nordic types enjoying that more. Razz

There's always nice fish to be had in the local foodstores because I live on the West Coast.

Speaking of cuisine, I've been making coconut cream pies lately. They're pretty good (if I say so myself!) I've been coating the inside of the pie shell with a layer of mixed dark chocolate and cream before I add the filling, which goes well with the coconut cream part. The only problem is that the filling ends up tasting too much like pudding. The ingredients I used are mostly the same though, so what can you do?

all this talk of food is making me want someone to make some for me. Wink  I have never tried sushi and I don't like the sound of it or understand what the appeal is with raw fish yeuch! but that fried stuff looks more my taste and quite delicious. really though how is raw fish nice? doesn't it smell and isn't it clammy and chewy and all fishy yucky? scratch but each to their own. I have the worlds most unsophisticated palate though. boiled spuds is the most exotic thing I eat.
